LS6 CNC ported heads and showroom stock racing cam?
I have a 99 LS1 in my 69 Camaro.
The engine is stock right now. I need more power and am torn between twin turbos and hads and cam.
I will be very happy with 450rwhp. I know this is easy with forced induction but I am not sure if I can do it with heads and cam.
A little info about the car:
1969 Camaro, 12 point chromolly cage, C4 Vette front and rear suspension with modified geometry, 99 LS1 and T56, custom 1.75" stainless long tube headers into a custom stainless 3" exhaust with X pipe and free flowing mufflers, 4.10 rear gears, 275/40/17 front tires and 335/35/17's on the back. The car should be about 3000lbs when completed.
I don't think torque will be a huge factor for me since the car is pretty light and with the 4.10 I will just fry the tires with too much torque.
I am considering buying the LS6 upgrade kit that Paceparts sells. The kit will cost about $2800 and will include the cam, springs, titanium retainers, CNC ported 2002 LS6 heads 290 CFM at .50 inch lift, intake, gaskets and all just to bolt it together.
How much HP can I expect from this in my car with the headers and freeflowing exhaust?
I am also considering a camshaft upgrade since emissions are not a concern.
I was looking at the showroom stock racing cam with it (570/570 239/251 106 degree LC).
Or maybe the ASA cam 525/525 226/236 110 degree LCA.
Or maybe the Hotcam, don't have the specs handy for that.
What do you guys think? What's my fastest way to 450rwhp?

People have been getting pretty close to 450 cam only with the T-Rex V2 from Thunder. Might want to consider that one. With some heads I don't think you'd have any trouble hitting 450 with that cam. Although a milled head might involve flycutting pistons. Not the most knoledgable person you'll find here but that's my .02

Wow, 450 with just a cam is amazing. I will have to see if I can find the specs on that cam.
The pistons do need to be flycut, the cam comes with a schematic so you know how much to cut from where.
Just got a quote from Paceparts for everything, comes to $3084 with the 570 lift cam.
Any more opinions?
Anyone using this cam?

this other thread should answer most of your questions. Try doing some searches in this forum and the dyno section if you're interested. Lots of people running it. They don't get quite the results Thunder did, but that's kind of expected.

450rwhp out of a 346 isn't going to be a whole lot of fun and I'm a fan of torque regardless.
I guess it depends on what you want out of the car. Personally I don't like the peaky, way up top, turn my car into a Honda S2000 camshafts. Just an opinion.
Your best bet is to get a set of good ported heads. You can get everything complete for less than the $2800 kit from Pace and they will outperform the heads you are looking at.
The cams you listed are effectively junk for your purpose. None are designed for what you're going to do with your car.
The easiest choice to get to a fun 450rwhp (if that is your goal) is a simple Procharger D1SC kit. You'll put out around 500rwhp and have zero maintenance issues.

Yup. Easy install, no valvesprings to watch, just pure simplicity. And you can still drive it across the country if you want to. Heads/cam added to that will put you up around 600rwhp (but I'd be very cautious. )

Yup. We've done around 580rwhp on stock Z06s, and that is turning the boost down to around 5.5psi. If you know what you're doing, you have to try not to hit 600 with a heads/cam/D1SC.
