Default Are Comp Cams Trunions Worth it?

I know this has been covered a bunch, and I read a bunch of threads on them, but I'm still not sure. I'm running a torquer V3 and I know that the LSK lobes and high lift are hard on the valve train. I would hate to have needle bearings let loose through the motor, but if its not necessary, I would just save the $150 to put towards a FAST? Plus, the place that is dyno tuning my car says that they never use them and they could cause more problems than they are worth, and I value their opinion because they are very trustworthy place. So what does everyone thing?

Do the upgrade. I have no idea what problems that shop thinks they would create as these won't dump needles into the engine like the stock bearings will.

Go with the trunions. The last thing you want to do is try and save money by going cheap on your valvetrain.

The best thing to do is the CHE upgrade, its a solid one piece design and no needles to spit out.. Its just expensive

you broke 3? Did you use a press to put them on or had someone else do them?

Yea, there's something wrong if you broke 3.

I broke 16. Most likely because comp trunions are pieces of ****. CHE bushes, or leave them stock.

What cam lobes and springs you have? I think your problem is there, not the Comp upgrade. If you are breaking parts you have an unstable valve train, and you are beating the crap out of your parts. Just like the LS7 lifter failure threads, the lifter is not the problem, its unstable valve train. The lifter just happens to be the part that takes the blame, because it fails first.

Straight from that catalog

The LSK Series has been designed with enhanced characteristics from our latest professional drag racing profiles. These
have excellent ramp quickness. They are VERY hard on parts and not generally recommended in street applications!
The Comp Trunion upgrade is worth the money, I am running them in my new build.

Good Lord. I knew they had a few batches of C clips that were weak, but I've never heard of anything like that. Wow.

Good ole Comp QC. I'm still going to run them. The factory rockers are the best rockers for these cars. Period. The CHE bushings are probably the best upgrade for them, however.

Holy h3ll. You broke 16?! Were they all 16 from the same comp trunion upgrade kit?

Like said above; either you have an unstable valvetrain, or the trunion upgrade kit was installed wrong. Possibly forgot to install all 32 c clips? Haha...

In your thread you said one c-clip snapped off and another had a crack. Also some of the rockers had worn metal on the underside and only on one side of the trunion where they ride in the bearing which says to me factory defects in metal preparedness and hardness practices. I haven't seen another case like yours. IMO it wasn't anything you did to cause the wear on the nderside and as for the c-clip, in the picture you show where the c-clip portion is snapped off the bearing isn't pressed in all the way and it is supposed to be flush which could cause excessive side to side play maybe stressing the retaining clip too much.

FYI, Lunati does offer Stock rockers with their own trunion upgrade kit(85427-16) for under $300, I'm not sure if they offer their trunion upgrade minus the rockers or not.
Summit also offers a trunion upgrade kit(SME-143002) for the factory rockers which has larger /beefier retainer clip than the CompCam kit, and the summit kit is only $100..
