help, broken valvespring=bent valve

Default help, broken valvespring=bent valve

anyone done this? driving hard when valvespring broke. pulled head off and piston was hit on top right from center of piston to 1/4 inch from edge of piston. didnt see any cracks. bent a valve.

its quite common. if you only dinged the piston. clean off any sharp edges. Have a new valve installed.

should replace all springs too IMO.

Yes, definitely replace all springs... I broke one and the retainer caught it. I didn't have the money or time to replace all of them so I just replaced the one. A few weeks later I broke another one, retainer broke as well and bent the valve all to hell. Lesson learned... the hard way.

Just curious, did you miss a shift and are you running stock internals?

It's a stock bottom end A4.

hey whats up beast? what is your insight on this? brad at b&m says its not too bad as long as it didnt collapse a ring (hard to tell for sure but i dont think so, its not on the direct edge) anyone else?

I had a few valves hit stock pistons pretty good.All is fine,like said above just make sure you get rid of any sharp edges.Here's a pic of what mine did.

Todd, if there seems to be no physical damage such as cracks or anything, I'd put her back together. I would reccomend changing the springs, preferabally a good set of duals. That would help from this ever happening again. You can always do a leak down when you get it back together to make sure.

thanks bud, who would have thought i would have a problem with 220 cam, oh well i guess jpr put BS springs on, they were supposed to be iskys good to .600
