No. Once the timing cover is off, you can get to the oil pump. That's why it's a recommended upgrade. You have to remove it and the timing chain anyway. And 107k miles isn't bad.

Try a TSP 228r.... I like mine and is very good for a DD. I run low 12's with it. A lot of people sell cams here but you can talk to TSP too and get great advice.

Yea I cammed my stock motor at 135k, I wouldn't worry about it. If anything it may help it, I think my valvetrain was worn out. It made all kinds of sewing machine noise before the cam swap and was quiet after.

the 228r cam is a great DD cam.consider new lifters and trays,and new trunnion bearings for the stock GM rockers.get a ls2 timing chain.check Texas Speed for a cam pkg and install kit.you can get a mail order tune from frost .

Yea I've got pacesetter LT's that I'm putting on as soon as I find the right shop to install true duals. I was just thinking about a cam that would give me a little bit more power/fun, nothing too big that would kill my gas mileage. TSP has some awesome packages so I just gotta research some more about cams and figure out whats best for me.
