Default What is this noise????

http://youtu.be/jaJypWq0zWs

Hope this uploads. I was coming home from work today and noticed when i turned onto the road i heard this noise. It only happened between 1000-bout 1500 rpms from what i could hear. I drove bout 20 minutes home. There are no lights or codes. It was running fine other than that. When i got home i got new exhaust clamps on. When i started it up it started making that noise at idle. Cant tell if its from the trans or the block. Any suggestions??

Does it float with rpm or is it steady when rpm increases.

Do you have a SFI flex plate or a stock flex plate? The stock flex plates are known to crack. This could be what you are hearing. Also check to make sure all the bolts are tight, I have seen them back out before causing a clatter noise.

Pop the valve covers off and check all your rockers just to eliminate a possible problem with them or pushrods.

Might also get or make a stethoscope and listen to every part of the motor/tranny to try and isolate the noise....sound schism through aluminum pretty good, so sometimes its hard to find true location of the issue.

Did you check to see if all of the converter bolts are tight yet?

You have to pull the starter down and rotate the motor by hand to get to the bolts through the opening where the starter goes.

Went to start it to see if it would do it again and it clicks once and nothing. So thinking the starter went bad. AHHHHH one problem after another.

The starter could also be the noise if it's not disengaging on it's own! You really nedd to pull the starter and investigate.

well poltergeist 02. update. i changed the starter(had a little hiccup theres a thread about it) and there is no noise now. When i looked at the old starter, the gear would move freely on the shaft if i turned it up and down. so the solenoid was gone. the flywheel teeth looked fine and didnt see any cracks in the flywheel.
