Default oil pressure in relation to the PCM

does the PCM have to see oil pressure in order to work properly. I am working on a hybrid that has the oil pressure sensor removed and a mechanical gauge put in its place. Motor just cranks and cranks. I remember reading something in the FSM a few years back about the computer having to see at least a few psi of oil pressure before it will allow the motor to start. Is this correct? or can you completely remove the oil pressure sender and install a mechanical gauge without running in to any issues?

I think it should work without seeing oil pressure. I broke my sending unit when I did my heads/cam swap and as I remember it started but showed no pressure which is when I discovered I broke it putting everything back together.

I put a 2004 5.3 with a 1999 pcm in a 1992 chevy pickup and i have the trucks oil pressure sending unit installed. I have no oil pressure signal going to the pcm and truck runs fine.

The pcm does not read oil pressure...only goes to the gauges.

Check all your grounds...especially on the back of the driver side head. There are two ground wires there, but there are 3 eyelets to be grounded, not two. Make sure you got all 3 or it wont fire.
