Default newly rebuilt ls1 smokes

My newly rebuilt ls1 with everything in my sig has about 4,000 miles on it. The car runs great! Yesterday I let my son drive the car and I followed him. We were setting in traffic for awhile and when he pulled out on to the interstate and punched it the car blew out a big cloud of bluish black smoke that cleared out mid way through third gear. It doesn't smoke on start up and never smokes running it normally. The car idles at 900 rpm's steady. Could it be loading up at idle? Oil consumption so far has been about 1 quart every 1500 miles.

does it have a oil catch can? If not, you can spend anywhere from $20 to $300 on one from Ebay or custom made. I'm just wondering it that will take care of it, you'd see how much oil it is catching.

I do have a dual catch can system on it. I drain about a tablespoon out every 500 miles. It's a mix of oil, moisture , and it smells like fuel. Do you think the car may need tuned. I forgot to mention that when I was riding behind the car it smelled like spent gas even though it was bluish.

Well if I rebuilt my Engine...and that is my plan for next year, I'd definately get it on the dyno and in the hands of a good tuner.

Everything is new. Mahle power pack pistons& rings, prc stage 2.5l 5.3l heads. I'm considering taking the catch can system off and running the car.

My car did the same thing, new motor and around 4-5k miles started smoking only if I sat at idle for a long time, then it stopped doing it a short while later, but I use about a quart of oil every 3-4 k miles
