Default Knock sensor ?

Hey guys this has probably been talked about but im new so ima post it. My formula has the check engine light on due to knock sensor. Now the guy I bought the car from is a mechanic so hes helpful. the car runs strong idles fine shows no signs but healthy. so wat would this sensor be own for he said that he believes its due to elevation change. he doesn't think the sensors are bad because the cars runs and drives fine. Im just curious of my options I read that I should change them and I will but he suggest a dyno tune will fix the problem. so in the world of ls1 what do you guys think my first steps should be? and as of now its my transportation is this harmful ? thanks guys

The computer pulls timing whenever this code sets so performance is being reduced.

The possible causes include: (1) faulty wires or connectors on the knock sensor circuit; (2) defective knock sensor; or (3) a faulty PCM, although this typically causes two codes rather one.

Is this a stock setup? What is the year of the car? mileage? Did someone just wash the engine bay? Change the sensors and the pigtail harness. I don't see a dyno tune fixing the problem.

ok and its not stock it has full exhaust, injectors, headers, ported head, cam, engine wise. im gonna look into it. the mechanic I bought it from said he thinks the elevation change probably affected it hence the dyno tune fixing it. got it near the beach and I live right along the mountain of NC. its a 99 formula with 103000 miles. but it seems this happens often so maybe they just went out. and no the engine bay is dusty so I don't think it has been washed in awhile.

What ever you do don't let anyone tune out the knock sensors. I'm sure you need to replace them and the harness. No tune is going to fix that code, at least not a good tune.

Elevation change will not make the knock sensor fail... and a tune will not make a failed knock sensor work

Read this: P0327

What commonly happens on the LS1/LS6 is that the knock sensor cavities in the valley cover accumulate water which causes the knock sensor bodies to rust, this degrades their performance.

Awesome thanks guys an Im gonna replace them an the harness. I seen the code was for a low voltage. An i read to silicone around the sensor to help stop water build. Wat about brand knock sensor? Ibread not to use autozone stuff which is duralast. They said stick with acdelco due to autozones goin out fast any wisdom?
