LS2 block can be bored to...?
#21
It appears that a few of you who've been playing with blocks are in here so I'll ask this here:
The LS3/L92 block has a "max stroke" (as per the GMPP catalog) of 4 inches.
The LSA & LS9 blocks have a max stroke of 4.5 inches.
It's my understanding that the LSA & LS9 blocks are a LS3 block with piston squirters and steel main caps. Additionally, the LS9 are also deck plate honed. Are the sleeves also different?

Gotcha, thanks for the info. Interesting how the GMPP catalog made that typo in the 2011 and 2012 issues.
There are a good number of vendors offering 4.125 inch stroke engines in the LS3 block so I'm thinking it must be "safe" to do so. TSP, Katech, SLP, and others all offer LS3 based engines with 4.125 stroke cranks.

Hey Jake, I did see your post above about that. I'm a N/A guy so crown thickness is less of a concern.
I have the Wiseco/K1 catalog, their LS engine strokes are 4.00, 4.125 and 4.25 inches. They don't list a 4.10.
It looks like I'm gonna go with a LS3 block bored to 4.07 with a stroke of 4.125.

This is a photo I took of an LSA I built for the last TX Mile. It's a stock stroke crank with forged rods and pistons. You can see how the sleeve is shorter than the bore in the block. The LS7 sleeves protrude down further past the aluminum.
You can also see how the oil squirters don't clear the piston. I bent the squirters away from the pistons, but then they would hit the connecting rod of the opposing cylinder, and that was with the stock stroke.

K1 4.1" is # 346-4100RB6F
The 4.1" crank is compatible on all the 4.125" stroke pistons per the Wiseco catalog.

Yes, see when increasing stroke you bring the piston further down in the cylinder which exposes the bottom of the piston out of sleeve further at BDC. This action allows the piston to rock more and eventually can lead to an increase in oil blow by consumption.
One could resleeve with longer sleeves and that helps if one is set on running bigger than 4.00 stoke.

413 ls1 gen 3 can't take a 4.100 crank
