Default Difference between LS1 and "generic" cam degree kit?

I see cam degree sets listed for LS1 engines. What is the difference between these and a typical SBC degree kit? Can I use a regular SBC kit on an LS1?

is your engine in our out of the car? Heads on or off?

I got all my tools for this on Jegs. 2x dial indicators, magnetic boom stand, bridge stand, 9" wheel, etc.

If it's in the car, it's a bit more of a pain.

Rezin, did you get the Jegs kit or just buy each individually?

I bought the pieces individually. I did the cam with the heads off using the dial indicator on the bridge stand to find absolute TDC. The other dial indicator was on the pushrod. I also used a bent copper wire for the degree wheel pointer. Solid lifters are not needed for this method.

I verified all 16 lobes using this method. Very tedious work!

The only thing I didn't have that would have helped is the tapered washer to centralize the degree wheel on the crank snout. I ended up taking the big washer from the ARP crank bolt and gluing it to the degree wheel in the center.

Here is the tools list:

Degree wheel, Comp Cams 9" 4790 - $17
Bridge stand, Proform 66797 - $40
Dial indicator, Proform 66962 - $22 ea, 2x

I bought the Comp kit. It includes the crank fitting, which is like $50 by itself. Otherwise, you're paying a Comp tax on everything else. I need to get a second Dial indicator so I can check TDC on the piston and the cam at the same time, though I have a cam doctor report on the cam. So maybe I don't need to verify the cam itself...
