Default Thinking about switching cams

I was just wanting to get some opinions on the matter...
I've got a Torquer V3 right now(haven't installed it yet) that I got off of a trade from a friend. I've been doing some reading around here and from what I'm seeing I don't really like the numbers this cam makes. I was thinking about maybe switching to a MS3 or custom grind with similar performance. I'm planning on doing heads with the cam so I've had my eye on a tsp H/C package.
Thoughts?

Do you have any dyno numbers on your car?

The BTR Stage IV made 446rwhp/440rwtq cam only in an LS6 Vette w/LS6 Intake. And 517rwhp/455? with TEA ported 243s touched up by Tooley. The Tick cam is pretty similar.

In an LS1 F-Body with a FAST 102, you could be in the 430-440rwhp range as well on the same dyno.

Those are pretty good numbers. I'm shooting for 450 to the tire with H/C/I and then prob throw a 100 shot on it.

450 you could do with a smaller cam and decent heads. It'd drive better.

Those cams I listed are more for max effort setups that will be 480+ rwhp...

I wouldn't complain about 480 at all haha. And I'm not to worried about drivability since its not a DD.
What size of a cam would you think could make 450 with those mods

228/232 112 or so. Something in that neighborhood.

I'll keep that in mind... Like I said drivability isn't an issue so having a nasty cam would be fine. Just want tobmake sure its reliable.

The cams I posted use good lobes. You'll be fine with those.

Before you get too wrapped up in 'making numbers'; is your car ready to accept a max effort cam? What is your differential?

Take your pick.
The listed are way better options OP then what you are looking at. Take a real hard look at these.

Max effort cams require a lot of work to maximize their potential.

Good ported heads milled down (and possibly flycutting the pistons), FAST 102, 4.10 rearend (aftermarket rear like a 12-bolt, 9", or S60 preferred), underdrive pulley, fuel system upgrades, etc.

I gotcha. Would you consider an ms3 a max effort?

Ditch the MS3 idea. The valve events make for no torque and it's using XE-R lobes which require a lot more attention to detail on the valvetrain.

Attention to detail as in more upgraded parts? I've seen the 228R cams make good power with heads and basic bolt ons. What about a cam in the mid 230s for dur? I don't think my car is set up for a max effort cam. And I don't have that kind of $ to get it there either. I'm basically just looking at heads cam and possibly intake

See, putting a huge cam in with stock gears and differential will result in a badly matched combo that will suck below 4000+rpm and it will not yield good performance.
What are your differential gears? Pick a cam that will work well with those.
I bet you want it to sound mean, for that you do not need big durations you need overlap. If I were you I would look into about 9* overlap or so. Plenty for the street.
After all, is your car going to be driven? Or you just want a high dyno number to talk about and park it?
