Someone posted a while back that the stock head measures 4.75" or 3.75" (I don't remember which) from head surface to valve cover surface. It should be obvious which one it is and if you have a calipers or mike, you should be able to figure out how much may have been cut. I was able to verify that my heads had been cut 0.040" with that method.

Ok, gotta few more questions for you guys. First off, here's my plans so far:

1. Fly cut the pistons. But how much?

2. Cometic .067 gaskets. Where to buy? Should I even get a new one, or are the old ones reusable?

3. Rollmaster Adjustable Timing set. Heat Treated or not?

4. Degree in Cam. Where to find a write up on doing this?

5. New head bolts.

6. All new valves (stock). lap them in. Is that all that is required?

Also, how much would you guesstimate that my compression is going to drop by flycutting the pistons and getting a thicker gasket?I think that's it for now. Thanks again for all the help.

The first thing I would do before I bought anything else is DEGREE that cam.
If it is off more than 2 degrees I would raise a little hell with Thunder. By the sound of it, it may be out more than that.

Your whole dilemma has got me concerned as well. I too will be going in with the T-rex in about 2 weeks. I am just waiting on my heads. I went with larger valves though. Only 2.02 so that should not be an issue. By the way, did you check your pushrod length. How many turns of lifter pre load did you have?

I understand that you can't use valve sizes larger than stock unless you flycut. Can a TRex owner confirm this?
