Default Need help Cleaning my heads

This weekend I'm going to clean my heads and valve covers...So What do i use to clean my heads? What liquids and materials? Any suggestions? Thanks!

if you have access to a parts cleaner at a shop is the besy way. If you do not have one availible brake cleaner and lint free rags will do the trick.

Put them in your dish washer.lol.. If you are going to pull them apart and replace the seals you can soak them in laquer thiner and wire brush the will look like
New.. Simple green works so does tide or dish soap don't let the soak in simple green that tends to etch the aluminum..
Find a local shop give them 20 buck and have them toss them on the jet wash.

Yea have a machine shop hot tank for $50....or go cheap like me and spend a long time with rags, toothbrush, brake cleaner, and a roloc disc

Not a hot tank. That eats alum.

Hot tanks are fine we ultrasonic all of our parts about 150 degrees just can't run them for to long.

Hottanks are fine for the aluminum as long as the caustic cleaning solution is diluted properly. For the 20.00 you can get the heads cleaned. FOr a few extra bucks the shop may take the heads apart and was all the stuff. Its a good time as ever to inspect valve seats, valve guide wear, sealing surfaces, etc.

Easiest way I have found to clean the valves is to put them on a drill press and hold a piece of sand paper/emery cloth on them but stay away from the seat area...
