Default Pulled valve covers... one side is burnt looking??? why?? *pic inside*

my buddy has a JY LQ4 we picked up for a decent deal.... we have gotten around to pulling the valve covers off and one side looks burnt~ish everything is just darker in color on the one side.
Any ideas why this happens?
havent pulled the plugs or oil pan but the rockers and pushrods are all darker color????
any info helps..

Its a JY motor. They probably replaced the VC due to damage. Maybe a accident or they caused it during removal.

The driver side is the dirty side for pvc the passenger side is the clean air side that hooks up to tb.maybe that is the cause?

The color difference is from the baffling on the top of the drivers side VC compared to the lack of baffling on the passenger side VC.

Is is stock or has the PCV system been altered? That is a potential cause if, as stated above, both VC are original and one hasn't been replaced with a new one.

I'd say the clean side has been replaced....its crazy clean. The burnt side as you describe it looks normal to me.

hmmm, Idk.... I got the motor from a little service shop, they said the truck was having a small tick. i think it was valvetrain noise from the description(loose rocker perhaps).
Never said that any valvetrain parts were replaced though.
the valve springs, retainers, pushrods, rockers all showed a darker shade on the one side.

Took the plugs out, they were all the same. (no melted, white, etc.)
pulled the heads off, all pistons and cchambers showed identical buildup.
I did notice however a weird pastey, tacky, almost grease like substance in a couple of the intake runners of the heads though (i never seen before). idk

last thing to do is pull the oil pan and do a visual of the rotating assembly.
