Default Do I have a blown head hasket?

I wasn't sure where to post this. But anyway for about the past month, when I turn off my car you here coolant surging into the overflow reservoir. Every so often it will actually over-flow from the reservoir. The car isn't running any hotter than it ever does, according to the factory gauge. I've tried everything. I just don't understand why it does it just when I turn the car off? Please help me out here.

probably should be in the internal engine section. anyway, is your oil milky? coolant discolored? smoke from the exhaust? any work done to the engine lately? air in the system? sounds like an air pocket. if that isn't it, do a cooling system pressure test and/or pull your plugs. wort case senario, head or head gasket. try the cheap easy stuff first.

We need to move this to internal engine, but try topping up the radiator in the morning while the car runs until the t-stat opens and check the level for a few days in a row. If it's low every day you might have a leaky hose, bad radiator, or bad head gasket.

Did you check it and top it up for a few days? I told you how to check I have blown head gaskets a few times in the past.

I let it run til the stat opened up but there is always a large amount that runs into the overflow which leaves the radiator level low to begin with so its hard to tell if its lost any coolant or not.

It goes into the overflow when you shut the car off or even when it's just running? I'd like you to top it up and drive it and then check it the next day to see how much you need to add. Sometimes it's low and two days of topping it up take care of it, but sometimes it's a blown head gasket or bad water pump or bad hoses.

This only happens when I turn my car off. But it happens every time not just every now and then. It's pretty obvious meaning that you can hear it running into the reservoir. Course the radiator doesn't fill back up til its running again. I think there is plenty of coolant in the system. If I added anymore it would just run over everytime. Maybe I am misunderstanding your point cause I'm sure you know a lot more about this than I do. Are you wanting it to run over hinting that there is an air pocket or what?

I just wanted to eliminate an air pocket as the culprit, but when I had my blown head gasket it would do what you described, it would pressurize the cooling system...

Can you smell a sweet burning smell?

I think it does have a different exhaust smell than usual. Not really sure though. This is probably just a mental thing cause I'm expecting the worst. Just took my car out for a drive and it didn't mess up this time. The car was driven for about an hour and turned off 4 different times. Nothing at all this time. Normally you can hear it seaping into the overflow. If it was a head gasket would I have the same results every time?

You might have something simple like a faulty radiator cap
I had a blown head gasket and there was oil in my antifreeze. Also gave the sugery smell out the tail pipes.

if it adds coolant when it cools off.....well....that's backwards. still sounds like an air pocket. that would do it. what an air pocket does is superheats the surrounding coolant causing it to boil and expand, causing the resivoir to fill up when you shut it off. if you are getting coolant into the combustion chamber, the car will probably smoke a little and smell sweet, like coolant.

I wished it was just an air pocket but I've already tried bleeding the system several times. Also I tried the new cap but no luck there either.
