Trust me Gomer, you have NO idea how much work went into Damians setup

I think TEA hand finished his heads for free after he sent em back 6 times with bent valves cause he couldnt get the cam in right. They felt bad for the guy

Spanky, I believe the diffrence lies in the combustion chamber. I noticed on the sheets you posted, both heads were "flowed" on a 3.900 bore. That can't be good for numbers on the 6.0 head with its bigger chamber. I'm not going to argue the question that some have heads that flow more, but what size are there runners? I've seen up to 235+cc's on some of these LS-6/6.0 heads. Patriots spec in at 225-228. Most of the cars these heads are going on can't even come close to using 330+ cfm. It's all part of the game I guess. Most consumers chase numbers and not the big picture. Oh well.

The flow data without the intake in place is meaningless for the most part as most of us since we have LS6 intakes.

The top of the line 320-330+cfm heads will flow about 275-280 cfm with the LS6 intake in place. These cars can use 275-280cfm spinning to 6,800 rpm.

Most heads that flow ~290 to 300 cfm will only flow ~240 to 255 cfm with the LS6 intake in place.

BTW - I agree the PP chamber for their LS6 style head looks good with it's figure eight double quench style.

This why we really don't have "too much" cylinder head for our current combo's the intake knockes the flow down a good bit even with the best of the current Gen III heads.

As for Patriot quailty do a search there was PP feel good thread that showed ~12 out of ~23 PP customers that posted had had some sort of PP issue. That thread is several months old and may not reflect the current PP quailty. I imagine PP has improved out of necessity over the last few months based on what prior customers were posting in the past.

As with any cylinder head get what ever head you buy get it checked by a quailty shop to make sure no details are missed and the heads flow as advertised. Check stuff BEFORE it goes into the car for best results regardless of the source for the parts.

Stage 2 6.0 Liter (LS6 style) heads on my car. 1200 miles so far. 400 very hard break in miles and around 600-700 cruising miles. My oil consumption has dropped from a quart every 800 miles (factory heads/cam) to maybe a 1/4-1/3 quart so far. Thats with a new pvc plumbing and catch can also. I'm definately happy with the results.

I had ALOT of problems with them - both in damage specific to the heads and collateral (no engine failure though thankfully) that led me to having a bad taste in my mouth towards Patriot which ultimatley led to me pulling them off my car and cutting my losses.

However, I did have one of the earlier sets of the LS1 Stage 2 heads (and the bad valves, springs, etc) and through this board, it appears that most, if not all the problems, have been resolved and additional problems with them have been significantly reduced and people are getting what is extected from Patriot.

What about the rumor of valve seats dropping? Was it true? Welding up the chambers for more compression doesnt sound like a good idea. It could lead to cracking.

I followed Spanky's advice and after much debate I went with MTI 5.3 Stage 2E (58cc). A little over 300 cfm intake and 210 exhaust flow, with a card that garantees me those heads will flow what the've been tested at.
$1795.00
Besides big flow #'s i found that heads also need to be ported in the right places to produce the Hp #'s desired.

not a rumor....Discount Tire Direct dropped a valve seat after they were only on for 50 miles....which subsequently destroyed his whole motor. But hey, he got a free set of Patriot heads for his trouble!

Look around at S2 LS6 heads from AS, TEA, Cartek, MTI, and others. PP is 20-40 CFM behind all of them (Not anything against Patriot, just starting with a lesser core).

Below, see flow charts from a stock LS6 head and a stock 6.0 head. The LS6 outflows the 6.0 by a signifigant margain. This is, IMO, why PP LS6 heads flow 20-40CFM less than real S2 LS6 heads. PP could probably do the same with a set of real LS6 cores, but then their heads would cost the same as everybody elses, and they couldn't sell people who don't know any better a 6.0 head and call it an LS6 head.

Shawn
There are ported 6L heads making just as good or better flow numbers than ported LS6 heads. Initially yes the numbers are different but after a good porter gets at them they are very close
