Default need choppy sound but thats it?? help please

ok so dumb as it sounds I am lookin for a good cam for a street rod my mom and dad owns. car is light and as far as getting the most power out of it we could care less,, just want that rough idle lope thump like muscle cars have. car is all stock other than tune and headers and really not lookin to do a stall. have saw the tsp 224/228 cam 110 & 112 lsa. shows u can run that without bigger converter. just unsure of it having the sound or not> have youtubed it but with different cameras its hard to tell.. I know be dumb to not get morte power, if we get more fine but we just want to show boat a little bit. any suggestions appreciated

Hi hedge, I'm no expert but I'm researching cams for my own selection and all those lumpy grinds are probably going to need a hi stall converter or they are going to buck, mis idle and push on the brakes making it a little uncomfortable unless that doesn't bother your folks.
The Hotcam sounds like it's probably closest to your requirements from the thousand threads I have read....

sounds like its for a show car and they don't need the actual performace that most of us look for or want for the track

What's in the car? a stock ls1 with headers? Look for something around the size duration of an LS6 cam with a lower LSA, probably 111 or 112

Hot Cam would be the best bet. Then lower the idle down.

Or the smallest of the Comp Cam Thumpr cams...

Tune the idle timing alllllllllll the way down and the RPM as low as it will go. Its a terrible solution but it works well enough.

Unplug a few spark plug wires.

You'll get all the choppyness and crappy idle as you want.

Best of all, it's free.

Can't believe you would go through the pain of installing a cam for the sound...but f you must then look at the Asa cam, plenty of chop...if not worried about performance than don't worry about the converter because the tune will take care of drivability if your tuner knows what he is doing

thinkin the choice will be the gm hot cam seems to have the sound were lookin for , sorry to all the horsepower gods I let down but honestly my mother is in her 60s and we aren't looking to have it wrapped around a tree so we will stick with sounding fast and if we burn his money for the sound then so b it.. we will have what we are lookin for

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hr...make/chevrolet here is the howards gm hot cam version. I think i will be putting this in my truck in the spring. Don't worry about what everyone says do what you want. I made the mistake of putting a giant cam in my 05 gto a while back and even though it made great peak power the car was no fun to drive unless you were in the 4000 plus rpm range.Car was more fun to drive before the cam.I will never make that mistake again for a driver.

Considering your goal this might be the best plan. Probably better than a cam and a stock stall.

As was mentioned before the GM hot cam will do what you want. It will be EZ to drive and not hard on the valve train. You will have the lopy idle that you are looking for.

for the sound of old muscle car, thumper cam good choice, we did it to shop truck 6.0 with no mods accept tune. did improve perf also. go with with the small cam or you will need converter
