Morel lifter failure
Had a morel 'street' lifter fail in my head/cammed ls1. 12,000km since I done it all. Noticed a loud clacking noise as I pulled into my driveway on a warm afternoon. Pulled the cover off to find excessive play in one of my Jesel rockers..
Started pulling it down to find a chunk in my valley. It's been super hot whilst rubbing on my cam exhaust lobe...
I dare say my lifter bore will be damaged and needle bearings in my engine.
Wish I never cheaped out on these lifters.

Bought a new one in hope that it would be an easy fix from Njclsx in Melbourne.
Still yet to pull the head yet, been busy and really hot weather.

I have always been skeptical of these considering the manufacturer only lists a max rpm of 6200-6500.
These are the Lunati equivalents. I wonder where these are made. I would put money down that some parts are outsourced.

I'd definitely step up to the 5206s or go with Johnson Short-Travel lifters... the ones I have are good to 900lbs spring pressure... with a .700" wheel. The axle retainers are beefier on the .700" wheel vs the .750" wheel in an .842" body. At least with the Johnson vs the Morel.
But either has heat-treated, hardened billet steel body. So hopefully they won't come apart like the street series did.

The one thing I did notice when I bought and installed these was this particular lifter that failed didn't feel quite right. We made note of this. It wasn't as 'spongey' as all the others, felt heaps firmer. Don't know if that contributed to the failure.
I've done a whole year of daily driving with these in the engine, done about 30-40 passes at the strip. No signs of noises, perfect preload etc.
I just thought these would be a little better than LS7's, I know quite a few guys with far more aggressive set ups than mine that run them with absolutely no drama.

the 5206's have been replaced by the 5274...
same lifter, slightly different link bar design so it clears warhawk blocks...
I've run 5206's for years with no issues with pretty extreme cams and more spring pressure than most LS guys even think about using..LOL

If you have the 5274 and would prefer the 5206 you can send them back and we'll swap them out.

Another Australian here, not intending to hijack but this is quite a timely thread as I'm about to purchase lifters for a rebuild and was recently made aware of these Morels. My intended application is daily driver and less aggressive than this particular camshaft (222/224 .560" 112 LSA at biggest using AFR standard application PAC springs) but my strong preference is to ditch the standard trays and use link bar type lifters.
I was intending to use Comp 8957-16 standard travel link bars and was advised by one parts supplier that they are aware of some failures with them but they supply plenty of Morel 5290's with no known problems and they're cheaper. I don't intend to rpm over low to mid sixes absolute maximum (won't need to) will be using YT roller rockers and the spring pressure, camshaft duration and ramp rate will be fairly conservative in my case but I would prefer to spend more and err on the side of caution with components and have reliability and a very long engine life. I would appreciate some experienced thoughts on the Comp lifters or the better model full travel Morels, thanks in advance.

I ran the street lifters with no issues 4000 miles shifted at 7500. 240-250 .620
I have the high rpm now and the visual I just did on them they looked like new.
Over rev, rev limiter or out of control valve train will kill any parts.
Been there done that on a 10'000 rpm n/a 10.5 engine
