ls6 Intake swap -- oily mess (pics)
I decided to post this in Internal since oil is touching it.
My old intake is completely oil coated, and as you can below see my heads are also coated. So much that it leaked past the intake seal.

I knew the old style pcv system was bad, but not that bad.
What should I use to clean up this mess and short of the LS6 valley cover what can I do to keep this from coming back?
Thanks,
Eric

you said short of the LS6 valley cover....however that is the best fix for oil consumption as even a catch can is just a bad-aid. If you hadnt done the LS6 I recommend doing so.

Do you see those plastic clips that attach the knock sensor wires to the old coolant tubes?
If you are installing an LS6 intake, you will be removing those tubes, but, also remove those clips from the wires. They are just large enough to interfear with your new manifold and may cause a vacumm leak due to poor gasket seal. It has happened to more than one person on this board.

I got mine from GM Parts Direct but I think you can also get it from www.sdpc2000.com do a search on it and you will find a good amount of info on the change.

Anyone interested... just do a search in the external engine section... there's a good post listing part numbers there, I bought all the GM Stuff (just over 100 bux.. beats going to hardware stores trying to find the right parts and making them work)

Search
Section: External Engine
Keywords: LS6 Valley
result:
https://ls1tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...=005616#000003
that URL gives all the part numbers... check out gmpartsdirect too... their S/H suck since it's cumultive... but I got a better price through them than I could find anywhere else (for all the parts)

As you'll find out, installing the LS6 valley cover on an LS1 block requires a little dental work. There's a boss on the block that interferes with the baffle on the new valley cover, and it must be (carefully!) removed with a Dremel tool or similar implement of destruction. Check out www.ls1howto.com for an outstanding, step by step guide covering this swap.

My site (ls1howto.com) actually doesnt have an LS6 valley cover swap YET, but I think it'll be one of the next things I do and document.
