Default debating on lq4 swap! compression mods?

im thinkin about doing a 6.0 lq4 swap. i know it has low compression...

my goal is to get the most out of it that i can and at some point spray it.

so i will definitely want to run a medium to larger cam and be able to support it...
what are some things i can do to raise/maximize compression:

ive read 243 heads
ported/not ported?

milled 317 heads

swapping out the pistons for lq9 pistons

You don't need to port the heads to increase duration, and 243 and 317 heads are the same except the 243s come with smaller chamber so you have a head start in the compression department. Any of those milled will do what you want, along with a thinner headgasket.

so milled 243/317 heads

If you take the block out to do the pistons, you can also deck the block.

Your best bet though is to just mill the heads and get the chambers welded up along with some Cometic 0.040 gaskets. You can get some 243 heads down in the high 50s, along with the thinner headgasket that should put you close to 11s compression.

That's the simplest way to go about it and you don't have to take out the engine to swap pistons.

I agree knock .02 off of a set of 243s and run a .040 gasket. That will put u close to 11:1 with the lq4 pistons or over 11 with lq9. Keep in mind though that static compression is all fine and dandy but torque will largely depend on the dynamic compression ratio of your cam. Keep the overlap low and the ivc lower and you will make much nore torque at low rpm. Also if you do 243s I would recommend a port job from ai or tea.

enough compression to support something like an
ms3 - 237/242 .603"/.609"
or something similar.....

also, are the lq9 pistons a direct swap? should i go with stock lq9 pistons or after market?
keep in mind i dont need the cheapest option but i am tryin to limit my budget

I milled my 243s .030 with .040 mls gaskets static comp 11.1 ,I would consider some good floating pistons if your planning to spray it though .better to do it now than after you hurt it. Also I would do a custom grind on cam for your application cost is about the same IMO

If you really wanted to do it right I would do a welded chamber 317 from AI.
