Default TSP "Magic Stick" Camshaft

Since I'm still a NOOBIE I try to read up in GM High Tech Performance magazine so I can learn a little without asking so many questions. Anyways I came across an add for texas-speed.com and it has a a car with

Patriot Stage 2 LS-6 Heads
TSP "Magic Stick" Cam
TSP 85mm Induction Package
Pacesetter Long Tubes
TCI 4400 Torque Converter
TSP 4.10 Gear Package

and it's runnin a 10.78@124

Is this a pretty good cam, or is it one that I couldnt put into a street car? I dont know any specs other than its the TSP Magic Stick

Whoa.. so since the Trex isnt that streetable the TSP cam probably isnt either? I know the Trex runs very strong in the higher rpm but what about the TSP Magic Stick? Will it be a better streetable cam vs the Trex?

That camshaft was a ~238/242 and went 10.78 @ 124 at the Thunder Shootout '03, it ran a 10.98 in the finals which was good enough for the win in the Quick Stock Class. It was a very simple combination that flat out worked, it could be duplicated easily.

I think the magic stick has a little less duration but more lift. I'm not completely sure about that, but either way, the characteristics of the two cams should be comparable.

No thanks.. I'll find out from people that have the cam in their everyday car. A dyno graph or specs really wont mean much to me, all I wanna know if its a more streetable cam than the Trex

Magic Stick = 237/242
Magic Stick Rev 2 = 239/244
Torquer = 233/233

It wont BE because it has roughly the same specs +- a few degrees. And the search feature will turn up people who have this cam and have had experience with it. Research, research and more research before you fill up the firstpage asking about every sponsors cam and its driveability

I even took the initiative to help you out use it https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=345837

Just like i said..

"
Since I'm still a NOOBIE I try to read up in GM High Tech Performance magazine so I can learn a little without asking so many questions." I also looked at a couple diffrent places. Some people opinions are diffrent as to what is streetable. And there wasnt another thread that compared the two cams.

LMAO your logic sucks. Usually the magazines are way behind the tech that is posted here. the best way to get de-noobified is to use the search button and read as much as possible. There have been many camshaft posts in the last month to keep you busy for a while and they go into further detail than GMTHP care to be bothered with

Your right.. but there wasnt one post that compared the Trex to the Magic stick Alot of people pissed and moan about how the Trex wasnt a streetable cam. So if the Magic stick isnt any different than i think this post is done.

everyone's definition of 'streetable' is different. if you want some mad power at all costs, then you are definitely going to stretch what you consider streetable. the search button is your friend....and just b/c there are no posts directly comparing the two cams....if u read one thread that is very detailed on each cam, then you will have plenty enough info to compare them yourself.

My friend David has the Magic Stick V.2 in his 395 stroker with TSP LS6 style race heads that I was amazed at how streetable it was (no surging..etc), but of course the extra cubic inches helped that.. it made 483 rwhp and 466 rwtq on the dyno..

He had the other Magic Stick with the Patriot LS6 style heads (made 450 rwhp and 397 rwtq) when it was still a stock bottom end 346 and it didn't have much bottom end at all..(3.42 gear) so that cam in a 346 definately needs a steeper gear to be more "streetable" IMHO.

I am currently running the original Magic Stick (238/242 -same as listed in the ad) in my car paired with TSP Race heads and the combo WORKS! The car is my only means of transportation right now so it gets driven. I already have over 600 miles on the combo and about 10 passes on it. I haven't gotten to run the car in any great weather, and it still puts out 10 sec passes. I can't wait till late fall to see it get deeper in the 10's. As far as streetability goes, that is all in the tuning. With the right tuning the car can be driven on a daily basis.

If you read the camshaft discussion posts that have been out in the last month, you'll see that these cams are not well suited for stock bottom ends. Cams in the 228 to 234 ranges have been thrown around in "maximum" size talk.
