Default some cam help please , i am all stock !!! need to change

i have a 99 Z28 motor in my 69 camaro . it is stock and i was thinking of adding a ls6 intake and a cam along with valve springs and rockers . is the hot cam kit any good that gm has or should i do something different ? this is a stick car and i want some lope but nothing that will cause it to shut off all the time . maybe some more rpms would be nice . please post what you think i should do along with the power increase i will get .

and how hard is it to do in the car . ? thanks alot .

If you want a good all around cam get a Thunder Racing 224, Allan Futral also has some good cams. The TR224 isn't too radical, but makes good power all across the board to about 6600.

Lunati makes good street grinds for around $370 shipped. My cam is a sub .550" lift cam and makes good power. Check the sig and yes you can do the swap in the car.

TR224 all the way. Thunder Racing sells the cam and you can opt for the complete package of everything you will need. They are a sponsor here and you can find their site on the left hand side of the page. The TR224 will outpower the Hotcam across the board but it is harder on the valvesprings due to very aggressive lobes. The TR224 will require changing valvesprings every 15-25K miles depending upon useage and upon spring choice. If you are budget limited the Hotcam is a rather cheap cam package that also provides nice power gains with a very lopey idle. The Hotcam has .525 lift which will be very easy on the valvesprings and they should last a long while. TR224 will all bolt ons running stock LS1 heads should make 380-400rwhp, Hotcam 365-385rwhp usually. Both cams need an LS1 Edit tune to run efficiently and to make max power and driveability. I think SD sells the complete Hotcam kit along with Pace. HTH

To me it depends on what kind of results are you looking for. If the car is not a daily driver and you are not as concerned with drivability I would go more aggresive. Since it is in a 69 camaro, do you want a little muscle car lope? I personally would go with a bigger cam, make more power, and have a little lope. You will have to spend a little more on valve springs. You will pay about the same for the cam and tune regardless. Just food for thought.

Yeah the TR224 is an excellent cam, and it's the one I use. But if you don't have to pass emissions, get something in the 230 range like the TSP cam or MTI X1.

The HOT cam is outdated, go with the TR224/112. It has amazing driveability and thumps good. Not to mention it powers many 11 second cam only cars.

The 224 is a good all around cam true,
But You can get the 226 or the 228 and still have Zero driveability issues with a good tune. You are going to need a good tune to get everything out of the 224 for that matter.

tr224 112
fm4 226/226 112
fm11 228/228 112
tsp231 112

any of them will fit the bill properly tuned, run 918's or better yet some duals like PP or cranes.
