Default Main bolts for LQ4/408?

Im going to do ARP head studs for sure, and all the rotating assemblies ive looked at come with ARP rod bolts.... Do I need main bolts or are the stockers fine? HP goal is around 475-500hp

For that power level no you don't need them.

So that being said then, unless I have a spun main, I shouldn't need a line bore/hone?

in my opinion you do not need a line hone if the following is met:

1. no spun bearings
2. old crank spins freely and smoothly by hand before removal
3. all new bearing clearances are measured and within spec

Okay, next question....

Any tangible benefit to replacing the stock pushrods and rockers? I guess the pushrods I will need to replace if i deck my 317's down right?

Most probably a yes on the push rods, and you can do the trunion upgrade on your stock rockers.

So much good info so far, much appreciated!

Trunion upgrade - based on pictures I see is this basically converting your stock rockers into 'roller rockers'. Basically, making the fulcrum rotate on a bearing rather than steel on steel, thus freeing up a touch of HP?

Pretty much and I want to say it reduces your chances of speewing needle bearings through your motor. I've never done the upgrade but it seems like good insurance.

Did a little more reading and it looks like the "only" thing the trunion upgrade is good for is captured bearings since the stockers pivot on bearings already....except the stock bearings can puke into the engine. So that will be something that ill definitely be doing. Cheap insurance.

Also read that so called "roller rockers" of the past are somewhat pointless on LS motors since the stockers dont pivot on a ball like the old SBC motor stock rockers used to., LS already have bearing pivots. The article I read said the only real benefit to them is if you are changing the pivot ratio or the (in my opinion negligible) reduction in weight due to them being aluminum vs steel.

That all sound correct? If so....next question....If I want to be in the 10.5:1 range running a 408 stroker kit and 317 heads, how much should I be decking the heads down?

Whats the volume of your pistons? Summit has a tool on their website that makes this easy.
