What heads are you using? Anyone using a 5.3L head with either of these?

I use 5.3 heads with a cam very similar to the MS3 and MS4 and it works great. I can't see it making much difference with the two cams you're looking at

Ported 243s usually have pretty good sized ports 225+cc which, when combined with a cam with lots of overlap and later IVC, can be somewhat of a dog down-low in an M6. At least that's my guess. Compression and gearing helps.

Would you think a 5.3 head would be better then? Just don't want to spend the money on a set if heads that are not optimal.

Most 5.3s are opened up nearly as far as the LS6s but don't flow as well. Their main benefit is a slightly smaller chamber to begin with, so you get a slight compression bump. I'd stick with the ported LS6s. They will never have the velocity of AFR 205s, for example, but can make power.

Talk to Brian he will tell you how the stage IV makes great down low torque. Its wat I went with and will be installing with a monster stage 3 next month. I expect to see around 420 on stock 806 heads. With 243s u shud be around 450-460.

He did beat around the bush in a round about way to that. He said I may lose power with some ported heads that were not ported rite. Unported 243s wud put u at.450ish HP in perfect world. I have 806s I'm hoping for 410-430 there people getting 400 on the stage 1

Unless your cam is grossly mismatched to start with changing to something a few degrees +- wont make a damn bit of difference

Youll always get someone insisting you need a custom cam because they can make a quick buck off ya....or thats what they bought-which is usually some off the shelf piece anyways.

Learn to perfect your driving; play with the chassis etc optimize what ya got then go hunting for more. At that point youll probably build bigger ci all together

I'm sure you'll be really happy with it. Just make sure you get a tuner that can give you a rock solid and safe tune.
