Looking to make 400 hp at the wheels, recommend me a good cam/head combo
Hey guys, haven't been on in about 3 years but it's time to finally get serious about the car now that I'm back in the states. I have a '98 WS6 M6 w/long tube pacesetters, slp loudmouth, and an slp lid. I want to make 400 hp and torque at the wheels. The car isn't a dd but I'd like to keep it street able and not take a huge hit in the mpg. Is this possible? I've also looked at intakes and am wondering if this can be done with an LS6 intake, as they're generally cheaper than FAST 92's. Would I have to strengthen any tranny or rear end components. Thanks for the thoughts and recommendations guys.

Ls6 intake, 224 cam, ditch the ory for an x pipe set up and you should be there. With a FAST intake and a slightly lager cam you should be passed your goal.

I'm moving to WA so I won't have to smog it. I'll consider the x-pipe, wasn't something I really thought about but true duals would run better. What about heads? I know LS6 heads will add some more but I hear great things about AFR heads.

A 224 cam and headers will get you close with stock heads.
Aftermarket heads and a stock cam will get you close. Seriously. A guy did AFR 205s with an LS6 cam and LS6 intake and made like 395.
Pretty much anything decent you put on the car will get you close to 400rwhp.
You could go with a 228 cam and a set of PRC Stage 1 LS6 heads and be in the 430rwhp range.

You could literally point blindly in a parts catalog and pick any set of heads and cam and reach 400 rwhp in my opinion. Like others have said, some cheap PRC stage 1.5 or stage 2, or even PRC 5.3 heads and a cam in the low to mid 220 on intake and low 230's exhaust will get you there.

Donkey Dick cam, now that's funny, I don't care who you are. I went with prc stage 1 heads and 228 cam, hopefully I'll be able to hit the dyno in about 6 weeks and I'll report back

the prc stage 2.5 5.3 heads are hard to beat for the price. I have a set along with the tsp v2 cam with full bolt ons. It's going on my ss with a stalled auto. I'm going to dyno it soon and hope for 400. good luck

Take a look at the Tick Performance, Street Heat Stage 1 V2 Camshaft and the Cam Motion Titan ll, 224/228 112lsa+4, lift .603"/.595" .
225/228 | .612”/.571” | LSA112+3 , with 2.5* of overlap it'll sound, and perform good , but still be DD friendly.
If your willing to give up some power for longer valve train life then consider the Cam Motion Titan ll.

A good set of heads with either one of these cams should have you reaching your goals.
