Bumping up for an answer about oil pump removal. From searching I see some say you don't need to lower pan . Then others say drop it an inch.

I personally haven't seen it done without dropping the pan a bit. Even if it can be there's not a lot of room to install the pickup tube and dropping the bolt into the on is no fun. So for and extra bit of time I'd drop the pan

What gaskets are needed to do the cam swap? Front cover? Do I need to replace the seal?

I just bought my cam kit from Tick Performance, they sell a cam install kit that I bought. Has the needed gaskets and new crank bolt. It was fairly cheap. $59.99

Front cover seal, front crank seal. It's a good time to look at or replace the valve cover seals as well.

I always replace whatever seals I remover or disturb, unless it's things like intake seals, TB seal, or valve cover seals, *IF* I've replaced them recently.

Looks complete to me.

I can probably save you some money on the cam kit if you want to buy everything as a package. It would be $689.99 for cam, springs, pushrods, gaskets and crank bolt.

Keep the posts coming, I am looking into this cam or a torquer V2. Good luck with the install. I will be attempting this work this summer hopefully.

What's the best way to hold the flywheel I already broke two screwdrivers off trying to wedge them in there?

Do you any local auto parts stores carry something That can hold it?

might want to try a pry bar... or a better screw driver lol. There is a flyheel lock tool but I dont think anyone would have that locally as its such a specific part. I've taken mine off with the prybar/screwdriver trick a couple times. just slide it through the flex plate holes and then wedge it on the block

Got cam in, fighting the oil pan to get at the pick up tube for oil pump. Took all the bolts out and it won't come down. Do I need to remove oil filter?

Tomorrow morning I got to see about getting that oil pump off. Then do springs, and get this sucker back together. I fought the balancer bolt half the day today it really stopped me in my tracks, then the oil pan won't budge. I can just barely get a wrench on the pick up tube bolt but it's not on square so it will round off the bolt of im not careful. Hopefully better luck tomorrow, I'm thinking it won't be done until Monday now unless everything goes super smooth tomorrow.

Take off the oil filter. And the gasket might be sticking the two together. You did get the two small bolts on the rear right?

Progress update. Cam, timing chain, and ported ls6 oil pump on, front cover back on and 3 outa 16 springs changed...... Yes only 3. I dropped a retainer and don't have a spare. So I'm stuck until I get another which I hope is sooner than later.
