Helicoils should be stronger than the original aluminum threads. I have used them for many years in industrial applications with great success. In many high stress situations we would put helicoils in on new parts.

Helicoils work and work well.

Yes, it will hold it just fine. Just be sure you insert the threads in the same plane.

I am very close to pulling this motor, melting it down and turning it into soda cans

Yes, it is a do it yourself kit. It comes with an oversized drill bit, hand tap, threads and install tool.

Take your time and go slow.

Has anyone else ever helicoiled the long 15 mm bolt on the block, i just found out after taking half the car apart that I have to remove the heads to helicoil it. :pissedoff: I can't get the tap past the head so the heads have to be removed again. My question is I was told by someone that the i can't get the helicoil deep enough to use it? does this mean the block is junk??? I am waiting on Jay's call back tomorrow as to what to do

If the tap they give you is a regular tap, you may not be able to get the threads deep enough. You just have to buy a bottoming tap to finish off the threads at the bottom. BTW, don't drill further than the original hole. (not sure if you'll hit water or not???)

Default Thread repair

I would not recommend a heli coil for this application. There is a better solution and one that I know will do the job.

Give Gary Reed a call at Lock-N-Stitch Inc. He has solid thread repair inserts and the tools to install them. 800-736-8261
