Oil change after cam swap
Doing a cam only swap just prior to my scheduled oil change. How long should I run the motor before I change the oil ? I know there isn't a "break-in" for the cam just want to run the assy lube out of it and any crud that may have been introduced to the system before I put the expensive stuff in.

I'd change the oil now, then, if you're worried about assembly lube and other contaminants, change the oil and filter again after a 500 or 1000 miles.
Besides, the "expensive stuff" should have a better additive pack, with more detergents and greater ability to suspend contaminants in the oil to be filtered out by the oil filter.

asking questions about oil seems to always end with you having everyones 2 cents but not a full dollar if ya know what i mean. haha!
The friend helping me (...ford tech who rebuilds/mods old 5.0 H.O. for ltd's.odd help I know..) Has always ran cheap conventional for one heat cycle & changed it. Then a 500mi break in with quality conventional, only then to a final change to your desired lube of choice.
I am following this with 3 oil changes I got from work for under $50 total. *Clearance quaker/peak and finally castrol edge synth.

I always replace the oil if I changed something inner, and I use 2 different oils an start up oil for 1K then replace it with my main oil, I use GTX as start up and Edge as main oil.
