Drill main cap bolt hole?

I've got my 408 at the machine shop to get line honed and the rods resized for .0025 clearance. They're telling me with the ARP studs its causing the main cap to shift on the thrust bearing and thats causing the crank to lock. He said he may have to drill the main cap bolt hole out slightly. Has anybody ever heard of this? I'm kind of worried now.

I haven't heard that one before. Does he have the cap oriented correctly?

I don't really know. He just said he may have to do that. Machine shop is two hours away and they had the best reputation. I sure hope they don't screw anything up. The caps were oriented right when they got the engine.

Something is wrong there. Maybe the main cap is warped or the ARP stud is defective.

I've machined probably 100 LS engines and I've never had to do that. If anything, the thrust bearing would just need a little attention to get the clearance I want, but if the crank is being set properly when assembled, it shouldn't lock up.

What do you mean by it needs a little attention. Like sand the sides of the bearing to get the correct end play? I'm hoping the machine shop just said he may have to do that because he hasn't really inspected it.

Ok he didn't actually do this. He said the caps needed "cleaned up" and after the line bore everything was fine. Hes going to go ahead and install the crank there to make sure everything is definately good. Hopefully it'll work out. he said the rods and mains were set at .0025
