Default Can i run 11.50 or better cam only

Hey fellas,

As the title suggest i want to run 11.50 or better cam only. Car is a Holden Commodore (4 door pontiac GTO) LS1 A4.

My only mods so far are 1 7/8 headers in to a 3" system and a 4k converter. Ive run a best of a 13.4 at 100mph. Car weighs in at 4100 pounds. Shedding weight is not and option. The way it drives on the street is how i race it at the track, with the help of slicks though.

Im getting diff gears and a trutrac next week. Either 3.9s or 4.11s.

Ive got an intake ready to go. All im unsure about is which cam. I was thinking EDs Streetsweeper??

Can anyone weigh in?

At 4100 lbs I'm thinking maybe not, but who knows...it could be very close. Depends on the track as well

I don't see it happening. It would be a huge struggle even if you lost weight. It might be possible if it weighed 3600lbs or less and you had some good air.

GTOs are in the 3700-3800lbs range and can easily be lightened some. I wouldn't be any more optimistic about a cam/bolt on GTO doing it than your car either.

It takes a lot of power to move the weight and launching hard enough to get it done starts to get dangerous for the IRS.

I have to agree. If it didn't weigh that much, I'd say it would be possible, but not at that weight. But.... You never know until you try.

You can run high 9s cam only in a 2800lbs F-Body... but you wouldn't want to drive that on the street.

In a 4100lbs... (are you sure it's not a Challenger? lol) 11.5 is going to be hard. Maybe with heads and really good air...

I am struggling to get mine to go 11.59 with 3650-3700 raceweight (me in the car) in the DA we see (1800ft+, usually high 2000s) and I have some mildly cleaned up 799 heads too.

mkvamso on here has a ls2 GTO with a small stall and a magnuson blower on it trying to get 11s on drag radials

cam only ls1 at your weight I wouldn't even count on 11.99 unless every little factor in the car, track, and weather is working for you

What gears should i go with?

I dont care about fuel consumption or revving hard on the HWY. I just want whatever suits my setup.

Hahaha!

I can't see him wanting to use that gear.
It'll make a nice open road Aussie cruiser for him lol, be thinking he had a few more gears to go.

If you're only running mid 13s with headers and a big stall then you're not even close and a cam isn't going to gain you 2 full seconds.
