Ok. Head gaskets:

I've got 3 different recommendations.

One says 5.7 or 3.910 cometics.

Another says the 4.035 cometics.
Both being the .040's, of course.

What's the proper head gasket for these things? While at Cam Motion we placed a stock GM 6.0/6.2 gasket on, and it looked like it barely fit.

I don't want excess gasket hanging inside, obviously.

What way do you guys normally measure chamber diameter. I'm not to enthused putting metal calipers on the inside of the chambers to measure. Maybe make a paper trace like you would an old headstone to read it, and measure that?

Thanks in advance

My guess reading your post is that you didn't purchase those heads from FlowTech...

Dave, I'd check with a few vendors and engine builders and see which they would go with and why.

I bought them from Kip at Cam Motion. Got the whole tour of the place too. Amazing stuff going on in there... Just really cool!

That's the issue. Nobody im aware of has installed a set of these, which is why there's next to no info out on them. Even if Vengeance or anyone else answered me, it'd be the same responses I got, as they'd call Mast and ask too.

You definitely don't want gasket overhanging the chamber or the bore.
The 3.91" is the obvious choice for the bore but it seems that the larger gasket was needed to not obstruct the chamber (if I understand you right)
Seems weird to me that a head designed for a 3.9" bore would have a CNC'd chamber which is larger than that. I mean sure it will effectively unshroud the valves but then what....there's a ledge sitting there and an even larger gasket quench area which wont properly burn and will elevate the BSFCs
I'm thinking a higher power is trying to coax you into a 4 X 4 combo

It's just odd. One said 6.0/6.2, one said 5.7, but their engine builder there said 5.7 (3.910), but they said they've never built a motor with them, so it just threw me off.

When I get back home off the rig I'll pull em out again and caliper measure. It probably is the 3.910's.

That gasket overhang into the chamber is blown out of proportion. It'll work either way. Into the bore is a different story.

What does MAST say?

?

I know the 3.910 will fit the bore, no issues. The chamber... I got different answers from different people. I'm just going to measure it (the chamber) when I come home.

I measured mine and they were 3.9ish, under 4" for sure. I'll measure em when I get home and post the result.

It's ridiculously close if you do the math, but I won't take a chance either.

Get the 3.980s if that's true.

Open up the gasket too much and you actually lower compression.

Exactly. I'll stick with the 3.910's from Cometic, .040.

Sound good to everyone?

I don't think you should put those heads on your car. They are far too pretty to actually install.

I wonder if they're just begging for nitrous?
