I'm assuming the 224 cam is the most speced cam ever for a LS1. Seem like everyone was running a 224 cam with all kind of heads/intakes/exhaust. I'm guessing cause it's has great power improvements and drive nicely. I'm not sure what duration would be equivalent to a 224 LS1 cam in a 402ci stroker.... but I'm sure some one here knows.

The equivalent would be to add about 10 degrees of duration. That will give you a pretty good idea... so 234/234 or 238/238 or 234/238 would all drive like a TR224 or 228R or the AFR 224/228, for example. This is why something like an MS3 is actually a torque monster in a 402/408. I've seen AFR 205s opened up with MS3s make 500/500 on a 402.

I have been doing a bunch of research on this very topic, and what I have found is:

1. If you do not already have a set of 243/799 heads, aftermarket castings are the way that you want to go.... used 243/799 heads are at least $400... and you risk them having issues, which would end up adding $$$ for shipping back and forth.

2. If cost vs performance is a concern, PRC 225 as cast heads have made high 480s RWHP on NA stock cube LS1s, and are less expensive than all of the other aftermarket heads... under $2000...

3. If price is no concern, AFR or Mamo heads are the way to go.

Well guys... I emailed Tony a few weeks back, one of the worst.. lol and best things I could have done!

Plans have changed into an LS3 based 418, 11.75:1, and I've pulled the trigger on a set of his MMS 235's... 8019 springs with hollow valves. It'll have all the premium junk, SLR link lifters, YT ultralight M10's... hoping to have it all together by May-June!!

No I don't. I just make it happen. I've sold my entire blower combo to fund this. I've been nauseous after reading every email from the guy lol

Hey FRiCK, did you ever get your idle sorted out ? Did you try the 230/234 113+3 you talked about in this thread ? Your idle clip on Youtube did sound nasty.
Reason I ask is I have finally saved enough money to get a cam. I plan to buy a custom grind Cam Motion through Colorado Speed and a 230/230 111+2 is one I'm considering. Also debating a 230/228 111+2 and a 230/230 112+3 . So 8, 7 or 6 overlap with the same 44* IVO. Was thinking .620/.612 lift.
You said your version of the Torro was kind of a pain to drive in traffic. Was this because of the lope, the loudness or was it some surging ? I will have less compression than you, around 10.9 instead of your 11.3 and I know that has a effect on exhaust volume and drive-ability.
BTW, congrats on your Mamo-fication .
