Default engine knock??? 2000 ws6

my boy bought this car off a member on here a couple months back the car came from PA its a 2000 black ws6 with 29k miles. It has some nice mods ported 243s fast 92mm intake 9" rear not sure the cam specs but anyway it started making a really bad noise only after 2 months of ownership I wanted to post this vid here for him to get some ideas on what you guys think it may be...when he bought it we noticed a pretty good oil spot on the ground he said it was from him recently changing the oil the underside of the car had no blow by or leaks we got the car on the trailer and towed it back.to ohio checked the oil again it was full he drove it a couple times then the car wouldnt start took it too a local shop the crank shaft positioning sensor had to be replaced drove it home and.started knocking like crazy...heres the vid

It didn't knock before the shop worked on it? If that's the case they probably flogged the crap out of it..............

Terrible sound quality but quite honestly what I hear sounds like a rod bearing. I wouldn't run it anymore , pull the oil pan and you can quickly check if any are worn-bad just by looking at them. The rod will look blue around bearing area and you will be able to move the rod on the crank. I wouldn't waste your time running it until you do this. good Luck

if noise is coming from the bottom of motor than could be a spun rod bearing. sounds like it won't even idle. even with a bad rod bearing it should idle. I would pull the valve covers and check for a bad lifter or rocker arm.

Not if the piston bent a valve. When the rod bearing is that loose the piston can move farther and smack the valves.

But hey got nothing to loose at this point for sure pull the valve covers and check them.

had a couple of LS motors with spun rod bearing and they idled and ran ok, but never bent a valve. not saying it can't happen.

Depends on the size of the cam etc but it can happen and of course the piston will hit the cylinder head if its worn enough. I'm not saying that's it but quite honestly the noise I hear in that video is rod noise.

I cant remember the specs of the cam ill ask him it was smaller than.the ms4 cam.I have it.was installed because.the previous owner was going to boost the car it idles fine that vid was sent to me thats why the quality is like that ill take one myself and we took the valve covers off and we turned the car over to make sure theere wasnt a collapsed spring or broken rockers ect it was a little flooded but the top half of the motor.looked fine it sounds like its coming from the front of the.motor? I noticed a oil leak in the driveqay when.he bought it I checked the oil after it.was making that noise.and there was barely any on the dipstickbut.no sign of oil on the ground or on the car anywhere would the oil have to be drained to change the crank shaft sensor?

No oil wouldn't need to be drained to change the sensor....but if it was run low on oil its a good bet that noise is a rod bearing. Most Ls1's use oil, I check mine 1 once a week EVERY week.

Even with 29k miles? We checked the oil a few times it was full on the dipstick I mean he probably didnt even put 200 miles on the car when this noise happened and the dipstick barely had.oil on it im not sure if the shop did it or if the car is really eating or leaking oil like that but like I said theres no oil under the car so idk its deff one hell of a mystery

They can use a lot of oil, especially if they are run hard. Its the LS1 Achilles heel. My WS6 with only 38k uses Alot of oil.

I'm sorry to say if I were you I'd drop that pan and start moving forward.

Before you pull the pan take a look at the oil, see if it looks glittery or copper colored. Could also cut open the oil filter but even if these signs are not there it could still be a rod bearing. The sound in the video, low oil level etc add up.
