Default Opinion on Heads

I'm in the head market. I'm going big cam, 4.56 12 bolt. (The rest is in sig) Leaving the rear exhaust there but flowing through a set of Long tubes. What are the "Heads of choice?" Thanks to all that reply.

I personally have been doing a lot of research on this very subject. From what I can see there are several places you can go to get a good set of stage two heads. Some of the better flow numbers have been from TEA or AFR.

However, If your willing to sacrifice that last extra 15 to 20 cfm you can still get substantial gains with a set of “Patriot Performance Heads” for less money. Right now you can get a set of Patriot Performance “Stage 2, 5.3 liter heads”, fully assembled for $1295. On the LS1 they will raise your compression ratio to 10.8 from 10.1.

That’s why I am having a set of “Patriot Heads”, an “Lunati 224/224 560/560 112LSA” cam and a set of 30lb injectors installed on my car the 9th of June.

I feel that we offer a very nice set of heads and that we would be the best choice, but then all vendors will tell you the same thing.
In going with a big cam you possibly want to consider a set of 5.3L heads unmilled(depending on your lift) to get your compression up to 10.8ish. We have a set of our Stage 2 hand finished 5.3L on one of our project cars and we just went a 7.39 at 95.75 in the 1/8 our first time out, we have some adjustment to make but we feel the car will break 6's in the 1/8 and 10's in the 1/4 NA. Current spec are
FFHP Stage 2 5.3L heads
FFHP Annihilator cam
Dynatech Race headers
LS6 Intake
SPEC Stage 5 clutch
Moser 12 bolt w/spool and 4.11's
Mail order tune
12.2:1 Compression
110 octane
Non working Line lock

We can do a set of Max effort Stage 2 5.3L or 5.7L for $1595.00 plus shipping
Heads include
Hot Tanked & Pressure Tested
Fully Stage 2 Ported
Polished Combustion Chambers
2.02 Intake Valves
1.57 Exhaust Valves
Bronze Guides
Crane Dual Springs
Ti Retainers
Hardened Spring Seats
New Seals and Locks
Flowed with sheet

Flow numbers are like this

lift intake exhaust
.100 68 59
.200 141 110
.300 209 163
.400 257 212
.500 291 242
.600 304 258

100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back.

Terry,
Have you got any flow #'s on the hand finished heads yet? Or dyno comparisons.

Thanks
Frank

I am looking for the same info as Zombiedude. I am in the market for a heads, cam, long tubes, and computer tuning for my 02 SS, but there are so many different shops now that port heads, I don't know who to go with. I appreciate the info from the sponsors themselves, but I would like to hear from some members with experience and specific dyno or track numbers from their heads/cam cars. Has anybody got any experience with the new AFR heads or know what they cost? Thanks for your help.

Here is one of the first dyno runs of the 5.3 race heads.

I will post flow numbers when I get back to the shop.

Do you guys do the hand finishing of the heads, or do you have the same people that TSP uses do the finishing?

Those are some pretty awsome #s for the size of that cam.
