Default Pushrod length with 243 & SNS 3

Yes, I did measure but ordered the wrong comp checker so I still had to measure with dial caliper. Anyway when I measure the checker after adjusting to zero lash with solid lifter...math tells me I need a 7.425 push rod? I've measured multiple times and keep coming up with the same legth. I also installed the stocker pushrods adjusted for zero lash and the rocker still has slop. after reading multiple threads I would think I would need stock length or possibly shorter push roads with this setup? 7.375 measuring checker tool with dial indicator, -.017 to get gauge length, plus .070 for lifter pre load. 7.375-.0017+.07=7.428. Is my math wrong? I'm measuring with head gasket installed cometic .40

I would torque the heads and use the EO/IC method. No need to use a solid lifter. also are the heads milled?

I just measured push rod length today, I came up with 7.325 using the EO/IC method. I have 61.5cc(milled .040) TEA 243 heads, .045 gasket, and a 227/231 112 cam @ 1.85 ratio.

The 243s are not milled that I know of...bought them from a member on here. I did get a valve job from a local machine shop. I took apart the lifters I had done the night before and noticed it still had some movement of the plunger under load. Now I'm getting 7.3858 using the adjustable push rod. Anyone with similar or same setup confirm? Thats pretty much stock length? Would I still be ok going with replacements that are 7.4s?

this is what I would do. if u still have the stock pushrods run them and see how everything sounds. they should be ball park right with the heads not milled. I ran that same cam with milled .030 243s and ls7 lifters with stock gaskets. I ended up running 7.350 and everything sounded perfect. I used them because I measured and added .060-80 preload for the lifters. so if your heads are not milled . u can add the .030 back from mine being milled u come up with 7.380 so 7.4 should work.

they only sell pushrods in .025 increments. so u just basicly need to get it close. doesn't need to be dead on accurate.

With Manton pushrods you can get any length you want.

well excuse me. I geuss that extra money spent making sure u get the exact pushrod u need is gonna make everything perfect. I doubt it. just run something close to what u need. 95% of the guys on here do the same. How often do u see a 7.340 pushrod? hardly ever.
