Default New engine wont turn over on the stand......by hand.

Bought a texas-speed long block 408 in Feb. Its sat on the stand in the shop untouched wrapped in the shipping plastic until yesterday when i installed the front and rear covers, valve covers, intake, flexplate and oil pan. While installinf the hub for the balancer.......the crank wasn't turning. found that very odd. Took oil pan off just to take a look......nothing is moving. Timing chain doesn't budge while applying a lil pressure to the crank bolt. Windage has spacers on it so thats not hitting the crank. Ive got the edelbrock 2pc timing cover on it with a single roller timing chain.....so thats got clearance. Im stumped on this. Texas-speed is closed on the weekends. Is there something im missing??

Are you using a socket wrench to turn it over or literally by hand ?

Should be able to turn the flexplate by hand as long as the sparkplugs are out...

Pull the rocker arms off and see if it moves. The cam might not be timed correctly.Dont force anything. If its got spark plugs in pull them first. It might be hydrolocked with oil.

Not sure if it's your problem or not, but I had a similar problem once back in the day when there was issues with some of the underdrive pulleys not working with the crank sprocket on double row timing chains. I torque it down and the balancer pinned the crank sprocket against the block and nothing would turn.

I can see the cam timing being off and there is piston to valve contact, but surely TSP checked that on assembly.

Ive seen some pretty strange "they would have checked that" items come up in new engines. I would do as mentioned above. Loosen or remove rockers and see if it turns.

Are you using a wrench or a long handled ratchet socket to try and turn it over?

Give us a call & we can help figure out what ya have going on. Something that got bolted on probably just has it in a bind. By the time its in the crate we ship in I seriously doubt it could take a impact in shipping that would stop it from rolling over....

It's something you bolted on most likely. I've even seen the wrong bolts get used on the retainer plate I believe it was and it went all the way though and hit the crank.
