Default Street car: c5r chain: damper?

Just trying to finalize the bigger parts orders.

It was mentioned that a timing chain damper is a good addition to any LS, but how necessary is it for a street car with the C5r chain going in?

It's not. Your block probably doesn't even have the bolt holes for it.

It's nice to have especially if there's any slack in the chain.

If your block isn't drilled for it, go with this:

I had seen threads about the trick flow adaptor, but wasn't sure that was the correct one (doesn't list LS1 in the applications chart)

It'll be fine the 6.0 blocks in the early years were the same architecture as an ls1 block so everything will interchange. You may get lucky and find that yours has holes tapped once you tear into it then you can use the katech damper

I pulled the timing cover off yesterday: I didn't see any holes.

I guess for $50 I should...

So there's no clearance issues on the LS1? Just bolt up and go?

Mine was already drilled from the factory so I bought the LS6 unit from katech. Just bolted right in...used blue loctite and torqued to spec. I believe the LS6, LS2, and, LS3 come with them from the factory so what does that tell ya.

True. But I wonder why nobody else has come up with a solution yet.... Or even why TrickFlow doesn't market it towards LS1s?

Probably because the last production LS1 was 11yrs ago. The LS2 & 3 stuff is superior....That is where the market is now.
