thats the fear I have always had with those stock bolts. every time i torqued them i would just cringe or have someone else do it while i watched lol. past couple motors I helped or did myself I used arp bolts.....Its worth the extra 100 bucks every day of the week, not only do you get a better reusable bolt but then you dont have to stretch it to the moon...

sucks to hear though im sorry, i have heard the top bolt holes dont even really do anything so just leave them out lol

With the power you were going to put down, I would have gone arp as well.

I don't think that was the fault of the bolts. Looks like you pulled the aluminum out of the hole.

Yeah can't really blame the bolts because the threads just pulled out clean, would've happened with any bolt. Need to see who has a time sert kit I can rent locally

Nothing wrong with the stock bolts other than not being reusable. There's also some prep work to the ARP stuff to get repeatability that most overlook anyways. In this case I'm betting the tapping out cleaned but slightly weakened the threads in the block. IMO just merely hand snugging those with a 3/8" ratchet would be right around 20 ft/lbs. if the torque wrench being used starts at 15 or 20 it will not be as accurate as when it's in the middle 70% of its range and could also have contributed to this miss hap. Couple of heli coils should be fine but having to remove and replace all the bolts is what really sucks. Good luck man; hang in there and thanks for showing the common hardships as well as the great things to follow......

Thanks for the kind words targa, I actually used a 3 inch 3/8 ratchet to snug up the bolts and my torque wrench starts at 10 ft pounds but having more leverage with the torque wrench I didn't even feel em pop or anything funky just kept spinning, my guess is it wasn't even 10 pounds of pressure. Just bummed out and don't wanna dump some money out of my next check on it yet to get it fixed. Debating going lq9 since here in south texas they're fairly inexpensive but not sure yet. Thanks guys, I'll keep my thread updated even though it's minuscule compared to most builds going on.

Damn sorry about your luck...

Not to stir the cathedral vs square port thing...just curious why the small bores vs Mast's cathedral 215?

Im looking for a new set of heads and both Mast ls3 small bores and cathedral 215's look like a hell of an option.

It's kind of a toss up, most good aftermarket heads are in the 2500 range, but for a cathedral a fast is pretty common so factory the price in on top of the heads. What I have in my setup is about the same price wise, but I wanted something I could grow with later on. Ls3 intakes are cheap and are known to work, been looking at a time sert kit for the m8 bolts and runs about 70 bucks I'll probably order one next week, keep you guys posted.

You'll keep your "thread" updated? Lol. That's a good play on words. Like to see what that motor would do with those heads.

Cool, makes sense. Good luck, looking forward to the results when you get it dialed in

Anybody know where I can find some little plastic locks that go on the top of ls1 injectors? Looks like they sorta lock the top o ring in place. C clip type plastic if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

I agree with you. I'm very anxious to see how these heads do on stock cubes. Others have purchased these heads, but sold them off before installing them. To my knowledge, this is going to be the first setup running them that's going to actually get completed. Good luck the rest of the way OP.

I was so close to buying these heads for my car. I had pretty much everything except for the heads but decided that it's time to sell my car.

When I was talking to Ed @ FTI he said - "We've made over 510 RWHP with those heads and the StreetSweeper so with the Hellion, it'll make even more."

Can't wait to see how this turns out.

A few combos have been put together, just no one on tech. These heads and the mms heads are the top two on my list. Can't wait to see the progress

Yeah, my statement was made regarding this site. I'm sure there are quite a few out there; just none that I have personally seen.
