Default Trick flow vs ported 799 heads

Hey guys,

Planning out a heads and cam project on my Z. I have an opportunity to possibly pick up some 799 heads for cheap then sending them off to say AI to be ported. Question is, am I better off doing this or just buying off the shelf trick flow heads.

Thanks for the advise.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. Was looking at the GenX 215s.

A good set of ported 799 heads will do better than stock TF 215's

Hard to beat the value of sending out some 799/243's to AI if cost is any concern.

AI can port those to 226 and get pretty damn good results out of them.

Or you could opt for the 232cc option.

The other apples to oranges compare is the GM powdered metal guides where the TFs have the bronze guides. The only Trick Flows that have the PM guides are the CNC205s which offer 300 cfm of flow and tremendous compression with 58cc chambers.....at 1160 a piece they are considerably more dinero than some AI 799s.

This is an old article, but it's been super helpful to many:

Take note of how the TEA ported LS6 heads did in comparison to the bigger heavy hitters. Financially it makes a lot of sense to get some 799's and have them ported. Good luck!
