Default Piston/Rod orientation

Got my parts back from the machine shop, and the pistons are all facing the same direction on the pressed fit rods. With that in mind, one half of the rods will face outboard, and the other half (other side of the engine) will face inboard. Is this acceptable? I was under the impression that the rods all needed to face out. Expert advice from builders please!

Im no expert but if it were me, id want it together like GM had it, me i would be taking them back to the shop.. but i really don't see why the pistons can't go in on one side with the dots facing rear ward.. mic the pistons see of there is any difference ... and if not well yeah .. but again id so be taking them back get'em put on the correct way

Also i think THOUGH I DON'T KNOW, but GM prob had the dot facing forward so if someone had it apart they would know the flats of the rod caps go forwards and the rounds to the back so to put them back the right way ?

But here is a PDF on the LQ4 might tell you what your needing to know peace

http://www.pleasurecraft.com/manuals/L510016.pdf

EDIT ok i just checked some rods, and while butting them together the wrong way it causes them to catch.. One flat facing front and one flat facing rear.. the machined surfaces of the two causes them to catch on one another..

Hope this helps ya

I hear ya. Only issue was with the 3hr drive through Atlanta to get to this place, about 7hr round trip. I'm two hours south of any respectable machine shop, and then this joker "hooks me up" like this..... Another Friday wasted.

That's correct. The dots on the pistons & the flat flange of the connecting rods face towards the front of the engine. The piston pin is offset to reduce piston slap noise.
