Default new to ls motors needing advise

hi new to site not sure if this is rite forum but i am looking on build advise for my 04 5.3 it has 706 heads on it . I'm putting it in a 66 nova and looking for a nice street/strip engine mostly street that can handle an occasional 100-150 shot of nitrous but not looking to brake the bank either. i have been reading a lot of threads but can't seem to find that combo I'm looking for.

243/799 heads are a good "foundation" for most builds... id suggest those heads, some sort of cam kit from btr or tick performance and buy other good components.... lifters, timing chain, etc....

Solid advice right there. Use .040" head gaskets with this combination also. You'll want long tube headers to get the most out of the cam

Yes you will want to mill. I want to say .020" will get you there. Intake should still seal up fine.

Ok so I will ditch the 706 heads and pickup some 243 and send them to get milled down. Any thoughts on a cam or intake should I stick with the truck intake or go with ls6

Personally, if I was going to spend the money on an intake, I would at least jump to Fast 92. I'm not sure the LS6 intake will flow that much better than the truck intake, but I could be wrong.

The cam selection will depend on how you want to drive it (track vs street), manual vs auto, gearing, etc. so would need more information on the intended use for the motor - and power goals as well.

Nothing wrong with the 706 heads once worked over, and since you already have them I'd consider just staying with them. The 243's will get you another 10 hp or so

I got a 4l60e ford 8.8 3.73 posi and 90% of the time will be street driven to cruise nights and stuff. I guess it will depend on cost to upgrade the 706 vs buying and milling the 243's

Since its not going in a 4th gen fbody and wouldn't have clearance issues, why not use a carb style efi intake like a supervictor, and a 4150 throttle body. Should flow better than the fast and cost about half as much.

Yeah that's another option Id like to just smooth the truck intake and run that. Back to the heads would I Benifit better getting the 706 heads milled to up cr?? Is the flow that much worse then the 243??

With the 706 heads, you would probably want to send them to PRC for a stage 2.5 port job. The 243's flow better, which is why they make a good upgrade.

As to the cam, based on your info, I would look at the Brian Tooley truck stage 3 cam. It's enough cam to have nice idle sound for cruise nights, and well sized for the 5.3L.

You might consider adding a higher stall converter to the package as well to help with acceleration off the line for showing off, etc
