LS6 Heads, ported ,shaved, no P/V clearence
I installed 02 LS6 Heads with 2.02/1.60 valves shaved .030.Existing TR 224 on 112 cam .There was no P/V clearence on either valve. If started valves would be toast. Thanks to Jeff(LS1derfull)he caught this by measuring P/V clearence. We will be cutting valve reliefs.
This is just a Heads up for people installing a set of LS6 Heads.I have no idea how SPDC gets away with shaving .050

Well, there is a big "eye opener" for some folks here.
Your post may just save somebody a LOT of grief. Unfortunatly, it won't be read by all the people that may try the same thing sometime in the future.

Couldnt you just go with 7.350 pushrods instead?
My LS6 heads are decked .055 and I just went with shorter pushrods.

Something ain't right there man. Are you sure you checked it right? You put the rocker pedistal on before you put the test rocker on right? If you dont, it'll make it look like it wont clear.
(dont laugh, i've seen this happen before!)

Believe me,there was no clearence and the valve's would be gone if I started the car!!

what rockers are you running if you are running say like a jessel 1.7 stock ratio i picked up 80thou lift and i had no p/v clarance and then i put the stock ones on and i was good with clearance jessel says the reason is the stock is not a true 1.7 ratio plus stock has a lot of deflection i think this thery go's with all aftermarket rockers just a thought good luck

Did you use the stock lifter when checking??? If so that's your problem. You must use a solid lifter when checking piston to valve clearance.

Joe....
Well, I finally was transferred from Korea to Huntsville, AL
I am new to this area. I see that you are from Walker county. Isn't that a little north of Birmingham? Not too far from me. What track do you run at? All they have up here is an 1/8 mile track. Someone told me that Steele was fairly close, and is a full 1/4 mile. Maybe we could get togather one of these weekends for some racing. Well, I'm not racing you....Your car would kick my ***.
My e-mail address is in my profile.
Sorry to butt-in on this thread.

I'm with Joe. You need to cehck P/V clearance with a solid lifter. also you will need to adjust the rocker to zero lash. Doing it the way you did will definately show low clearances. I assume that the psitons in the car are not flycut?

Re: LS6 Heads, ported ,shaved, no P/V clearence
So your saying that ussing the stock lifter with .06 preload and checking P/V clearence is not right?Sounds fishy.I really don't see how the clearence would be more with a solid??We were checking a running hieght which with the very slightest float will result in valves hitting the pistons!!
Remember that I have 2.02/1.60 valves that had a valve job,but were not sunk into the head to far because it hurts flow. This resulted in 300 cfm around .50 lift.
