Custom grind cam
The amount of lope a cam has directly relates to the cam's overlap. A tuner can change the amount of lope with idle speed and other edit settings to some degree and bigger C.I. engines can run more overlap before lope sets in. In the 5.7 / 346 LS1, overlaps from 0 to 2* will lope a little. a 224/224 113+3 has -2 overlap and could probably be tuned to eliminate almost all lope.

227/235 110 LSA cam. Overlap configuration would be 227+235=462. You then take the 462 and divide it by 4, which equals 115.5. You then subtract the 115.5 from 110 (LSA) and get 5.5. You then take the 5.5 and multiply that by 2 and that will get you the amount of overlap, which in this case is 11.
To do a cam, you also need better valve springs and stronger pushrods. You'll need a cam change kit (timing cover gasket, water pump gaskets, timing cover seal and crank bolt). Brian Tooley sells this kit for $50. Springs are around $225 for Brian Tooley (BTR) Platinum duals. Pushrods are around $100 but you need to measure and order the pushrods after the cam is installed. A dyno tune could be $500. If you still have money left over, get a oil pump and timing set. For a big cam you will probably need bigger injectors too. Speed is money, how fast can you afford to go ?
Although a shitty idle tune on a cammed car will probably idle like that too...and try to stall out and die at every stop light. Not exactly something most people want from their tune.
My car is post #1 and my cam has 22 degrees of overlap. I love how it sounds. I have american racing high flow cats. At one time I didn't have cats. It was way too loud for me. And it stunk! Another thing, having a cam that big doesn't have any low end torque and drives far from stock.
Just something to consider.
