Default Prc 225 or tfs 220

about to pull the trigger on a set of heads and are considering these two. which is a better out the box head? only mod i would consider doing to the TFS heads is changing what needs to be changed for the use of stock rockers.

will they produce the same results? this is on a ls1 sbe with 228r on 112.

Also are these as cast heads better flowing the the old PRC 215 heads?

Out of the box I've heard the difference is very minimal, so I'd go with the better price

The prc heads are cheaper even with the new hollow stem intake valves they offer. And the springs are .650 as oppose to .600 on the tfs.

Thanks.

I was looking at the PRCs too Luis. You can have Tooley hand blend the TFS heads and add powder metal guides and I think it's $2200

The prc are supposedly touched up straight from texas speed. So they say. Its 1850 with the hollow valves. Or 1800 as is. Pretty good deal i think. Not sure if 600 bucks is worth the extra 8whp from the cnc 227 version

Yea for sure, now that they offer hollow valves the TFS heads don't seem as good of a buy. That being said I've had a couple friends with PRC head issues.

What kind of issues? I had the prc 215 heads back in the day and they knocked .5 off my time

One had valve guide issues. I'm sure you'd most likely be fine, those heads sure do seem like a steal. I forget are the the stock valve angle? I know the TFS aren't.

The PRC 225 is not a stock angle head, they are blended and touched up before they are sent out, AND they are designed to be used with stock rockers and dont require a rocker upgrade or valve guides to be changed like the trickflows.

Never tried the prc 225 yet.. but the tfs 220 by btr is very affordable and performed really well. It's just above $2k but BTR also has one of the best springs, and can use stock rockers with the pm guides.

I was quoted $21xx with the PM guides and some blending. The PRCs are $1850 for the same but also have hollow stem valves so seems like an even better deal. IMO that alone makes them much more desirable than the heavy *** SS valves if you're spinning the engine. For stockish RPM shifts maybe not, but if you're going past 7000 the lighter valves are worth it especially when they come at a cheaper price.

I was told with my 228r i can mill em down to 58cc and that should net about a 50whp gain. Seems decent

If there is no valve float you won't see a difference between the hollow valves and normal ss ones. I spun the tfs 220 to 7k rpm and had no issues at all with the btr dual springs controlling the valvetrain.

If you insist on hollow valves, then they an extra cost with TFS so PRC seems like a great deal since there is no extra cost for hollow valves.. but you won't necessarily see a difference in power.

Oh I know, obviously there has to be a problem controlling the heavier valves in order for the lighter ones to help. And that's why I mentioned past 7000 where it gets tougher to control those bigger heavier valves.

The PRCs do cost a bit more for the hollow stem, $50 more which is nothing.

I bought a set of TFS 220 as cast from Brian Tooley with his hand blending, worth every penny....I made 504/450 with a 230/238 cam with an LS2.

Based on the research I've done, it seems like the TFS 220cc as cast heads really put down the power for such a budget head. You also have the option of having Brian Tooley hand port them for even more power. I'm not saying the PRC 225cc heads are a bad option, but of the two, I'd go with the TFS heads.

That's not a crack on the intake runner in the first pic, is it? Might just be leftover from casting but the flash highlights it.
