Works great for Jehovas Witnesses. FWIW.

New update. Daily drove this car for a few months, roughly 50-60 miles a day. I got some tuning done and got it running really well, but must be getting old or just used to driving the Caddy, because I just did not enjoy it as a daily driver. So I’m making some changes to make it more “old man friendly.”

The heads on it now are stock 317 cathedral ports with a FAST 78mm intake and stock MAF and MTI lid. I picked up some L92 heads and got them cleaned up with a fresh cut valve job using some SAM profiles, and skim cut the deck surface. Also got a stock LS3 intake with rails, injectors, and adapters to run in a F-body. Throttle body is a WARR 92mm and I think I’ll fabricate a 4” intake tube to run over the radiator and place the air filter behind the front bumper.

The cam now has 243/251 degrees of duration and .369”/.372” of lobe lift. The rockers are Comp Ultra Pro Mag with a 1.8:1 ratio, which puts the valve lift at .664”/.670”. LSA is 113 and installed at a 110 intake centerline. Thats an IVC of 51.5 degrees and 21 degrees of overlap.

The new cam will be none other than the Summit Racing 8715R1, aka The Ghost Cam. I know it’s teeny tiny for a 440ci shortblock, but this cam will drop the IVC down to 43 degrees and overlap with be -2 degrees, so it should be very civil and easy to drive everyday. The lower lift of the Summit cam also allows me to go back to stock rockers, which I’ll be upgrading with a BTR shaft rocker kit. The springs are from BTR as well with tool steel retainers.

The old top end is already off and while we get hit with this freeze for the next couple days, I’ll get the rockers cleaned and assembled, and then do some bowl blending on the heads and get them ready to go on.

Excellent plan, however at that displacement I would also consider the SDPC ls9 PowerMax camshaft as it's a 216/239-120+4 with around .600 lift and you could mill the heads as much as you want for at least 12:1 static

Did you ever dyno the 440? How'd it run? Cool project.

Small cams on big engines can be fun. The throttle response is wild.

Nobody has mentioned what looks to be a crack inside the intake bowl.

I never got it on the dyno. While I was tuning the VE Table, I was seeing 5kpa of manifold vacuum @ WOT before even getting to 5000RPM, so I knew the thing was choking hard. This log was on a day that the MAP was reading 102kpa ambient:

The throttle response was pretty wicked though. It made the car feel explosive with very little throttle opening or RPM. I'm hoping the small cam and bigger heads help keep some of that throttle response while allowing it to pull to higher RPM.

Yeah, that's just a seam or parting line from the casting mold. Most of the LS heads have it. I'll be doing a little grinding to blend in the throat and open up the bowl and it'll be gone.

@KCS did you ever get a chance to get this on the dyno? I am looking at an almost identical build for a truck application but starting with an LS3 block, Also have you noticed any longevity concerns with the monster stroke?
