Default CNC Ported 241's vs stock 317's

I need to know which heads to run on my 408 I'm about to have built. Eventually I'd like to get a procharger/turbo. Everything I read says 317's for boost...However I can't find anything regarding PORTED 241's vs stock 317's. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well ported 241s will outflow stock 317s pretty easily.

You want to know how ported 241's compare to stock 317's with boost or n/a?

Well it's going to be going on a built 408 short block. I have an aftermarket camshaft going in (it was considered fairly aggressive for a stock LS1 without flycut pistons). Obviously not the best cam for this build, but it will be better than stock I'd imagine. It will be n/a for a few years is my guess until I can piece together a procharger/turbo kit.

Ok so I don't feel so bad for sinking that money into those heads now. If I had known all this was going to happen I'd have had the 317's ported obviously. But whats done is done.

But are they going to restrict me horribly when I do boost it?

It depends on how much they're milled, how much boost, compression, etc...

241's were milled .020. Like to make 800-1000whp with the 408. Not sure what psi that would be depends on what route I go and part selection I'd imagine.

Milled heads will not play well with boost... Especially at 18+# , which you will need for that power level.

You're going about this all wrong.

Do whatever you want for na. When/if you have the money to step into forced induction, change what is needed then.

Yeah if if you wanna make 800 plus you want lower compression, so those milled 241's aren't going to do well

Go with the 317's, basically a boost friendly LS2 head. You can always have them ported down the road.

This sounds like a very mismatched combo. Sell the 241's and get some 317's. They don't need to be ported to make big numbers with boost.

The 241's won't be a problem. Just choose a piston with enough of a dish to give you the compression you want.
