Default BTR Stage II/III vs Torquer V4

C5Z, drive it a couple of times a month. Narrowed down my choices to a BTR II/III (dont know which one I want) or a Torquer V4. What would you guys recommend. Plan on getting my heads worked next. Mods in sig. Thanks for the input.

Not a huge difference between the 3, but based on the specs alone I kind of like the V4

Have you spoken to Tooley to see which one he suggests?

You should talk to a cam grinder. Those basic specs only tell part of the story. Lobe profile for instance isn't a listed spec but affects it as well as how long your springs will last. Asking on a forum elicits responses from people that have had maybe at best a couple of cams and I've seen people's tolerances for what's "streetable" be quite varied.

Agree with Svede I would talk with Brian and/or Kip @ Cam Motion.
That said however my selection between the three listed is the
BTR Stage 2, reason being least amount of overlap, mid-upper
220s good intake duration for 5.7. Cathedral heads
typically need 4-6* more exhaust duration
Depending on exhaust port and system efficiency. Stage 3 has huge
(for NA) exhaust split of 11* VR4 has a little short 3* exhaust spit.
The stage 2 will drive better on the street and be easier to tune
Will provide a significant performance increase with your stock
Heads as well as ported or aftermarket.I would also look at the
Cam Motion Titan 4 227*/232* .612"/.595" 113*+4* similar
Numbers, with quality steel for cores and gentle lobes for more
Valvaetrain stability/durability @ high RPM and quieter operation.

I Have a C5Z with the BTR Stage II cam along with TF 215's and a few other things. It has decent grunt down low and spins up pretty nicely. However, it is a Comp cam and the BTR replaced a comp cam that was installed properly with the correct springs and preload, and the lobes took a dump. Now I have another comp cam in a different LS that appears to have wiped lobes. Given my own experience, a cam ground on a Comp core would not be on my list of potential candidates. I learned the hard way but this time I specified that my cam be ground by Cam Motion on one of their cores. It doesn't really cost any more to have someone like Tick spec a custom cam on a Cam Motion core and it only takes a week from the day you order until it's delivered to your door. Tell them what you want out of the cam & let them design it for your specific needs. I'm no expert, but to keep the fun factor of driving your C5Z, I wouldn't go more that 2*-4* overlap and I'd want lobes and lift that afford decent service w/o having to replace valve springs every 10K miles. But that's just my opinion & you know what they say about opinions - they're just like ***holes, everybody has one.

"And they all stink" is the rest of the saying...

Mine is up to 8 degrees of overlap on a manual is perfectly street able and very fun. I would bet auto could take more. My wife thought my old cam with 2 degrees was too lumpy.

I couldn't get my f13 to buck or surge even, didn't matter if it was in 6th at 40 miles per hour or going through a parking lot, that had 7 degrees of overlap. New cam is going to be either an EPS 226/234 or a 226/230 both on a 111 LSA, or the FTI Streetsweeper HT, reading the old cam thread with Jrod and Ed and Pat G opened my eyes to a lot of things.

My old cam was a comp 228/234 588/598 114+4 and it drove great with my t56, I was on the 7k limiter more often than I wanted. It pulled awesome, so I vote btr stage 2

I vote for the SSHT, and it has 8 degrees overlap, I could DD my car if I had to. Did the numbers in my sig, 394/390 on a dynapack, and the OP has 243 heads. It could do a lot more in his if he has some supporting mods.

Give us a call. We would be happy to go over your combination and goals and help you select the cam that is best for you. Our number is (512)863-0900

Also, it seems there are still a few that are unaware but all of our cams have been redesigned using softer/more stable lobes and are ground on Callies cam cores.
