Default cheap destroked 6.0

Ok so I have really being thinking about building a 331 lsx to go with a stock ls1 t56 transmission, for my 91 trans am. I am impressed with the power that they make and how the torque output are with the stress limit of a stock T-56.Are there any members on here who have already built this type on motor already and mange to do it on a ok budget. I have a 4.8 already that's on my engine stand and I was just trying to get actual experienced direction from those that build their motor for a good price.

Why would you want to destroke it if the 6.0 crank and rods are ok?

if you're concerned about budget a stock internal 6.0 is a better bang for your buck than any destroked combo you will put together

that and there really isn't any point to destroking one other than costing yourself cubic inches

The 6.0 that I am looking at is just a bare block. I currently have a 4.8 on the engine stand that's in great conditions. The heads has also been ported as well. I have a professional product intake that has also been ported.so I am good as far as the head and intake department is concern. The only thing I would need is the piston ,arp bolts and basic engine prep work from the machine shop down the street from me which is cheap.so it would not be an expensive build. Because just about the rest of the things needed. I have a friend who have a ls7 stock cam down the street from me.that will give the cam to me for under 50 dollars.

what I would need to complete the build would be

now piston rings
6.0 piston
new 4.8 crank bearings
ls2 timing chain cover
arp bolts
gasket set

It will cost me less money to build this motor than to try and find a used 6.0 here in NC they go for 1600 and up. This will be going into my 91 trans am.

6.0 pistons will not work due to the compression height. you need an aftermarket piston & rod combo to work with the 4.8's stroke.

I went with 6.3" Lunati rods and Racetec pistons for my 349" combo. They will cut you a piston for any rod you want to use.

Stock T56s handle 6.0 power, even modified, quiet well. So I don't see why you have to destroke a 6.0 so that your transmission can survive.

Plus, there's nothing budget about custom/aftermarket rods and pistons to make it work especially when 6.0 rotating assemblies are so cheap. If you're worried about destroying your drivetrain there are other ways to reduce torque and power out of a 6.0

I'd rather have a budget 6.0 that's detuned rather than an expensive custom 5.4 LSx if all I was trying to do was keep my tranmission from exploding due to too much torque.

I'm pretty sure you can use the 4.8 rod with the 6.0 piston to maintain compression height.
