Does torquing to 29 with your bolts affect lifter preload?

No. The minimal change will not affect geometry or cause pre-load issues.

Just noticed someone mention 29 foot pounds for the straub bolts instead of 22.

I had clearance issues with my oem bolts and switched to straub should i get back in their and crank these suckers to 29 cuz i torqued mine to 22 assuming it was the same as oem.?

Thanks.

Mine are at 22ftlbs also. If this is going to be a problem I'd definitely like to know before I fire it up for the first time!

The 29# is the torque rating for the aftermarket bolt we use. It is the mfg rating and the MAX that you can use. Going 22#/ft is not going to hurt anything. Going 32#/ft will. So I have listed the max in the instructions.

We are now over 6000 kits sold since February. The number one comment from customers is how much quieter the valvetrain is after the swap.

Another follow up, took another look at mine today with ~100 more track miles on them (thats like 3 hours at or close to redline) and they still look great. This will be the last time I open it up to peek, there are no signs of wear.

Back in May I installed these bushings into my rockers when doing a cam swap. After about 500 miles I started hearing a chirping noise on cold starts, it would go away after a minute or two. Im now at 1200 miles and it still sounds the same. I know its not the belts, so Im guessing it is the rockers like others have experienced. When I assembled the rockers I used regular engine oil, per the instructions at the time. Is there any warranty for this?

Thanks

You didn't countersink the bushings when installing? You should have used assembly lube, but since you used oil I'd remove a few rockers from both banks for inspection.

I installed the bushings flush with the rocker body so the trunnion can move back and forth a little. When I assembled mine, the instructions that came with the kit said to use oil, so I used oil. I understand now the procedure it to use assembly lube.

Why should it make any difference? I've never used assembly lube on anything. I use motor oil.
Same as what the parts are going to see day in and day out.
My car sits for 2 weeks every month at a heliport (work offshore)... None of us pull fuses and crank it to get oil pressure; Fire it up and go.
Why would oil affect anything? That's what they're going to live in anyway.

We started supplying assembly grease as a precautionary measure to be sure during assembly that kit got some kind of lubricant. The bushing material is self lubricating. The oil channels in the in the 1st design and the oil flat in 2nd design are both used to "store" oil. If one used oil during assembly you are fine as the engine is going to use oil to lubricate them.

That's what I was hoping, although after reading through this post I went ahead and picked up some assembly lube anyway. I got my kit last week and am looking forward to installing everything, although as a heads up there was no lube in the box.

So what would explain the noise my rockers started making? And what do I do about it?

I just removed my comps with 10,000 miles. showed the same ware as everyone else has seen. I installed the Straub bushings. The oem bolts did not fit. I used the bolts from the comp kit. I have the 1st design Straub kit. havent started the car yet as it was 12am when i finished.
