Default Rod question

Will the 6.100 rod work in a 5.3? Having trouble finding 6.098 and was wondering if it would clear the valves/heads etc

Yeah, a measly .002" isn't going to make a big difference.

Ok sounds good thanks, but I'm having trouble deciding on a rod. I want to go with Callie's but I can't find a 6.100 rod with a .945 pin. I can only find Eagles. I'm going with a pretty high powered build (1000hp+) and I want to know what rods will hold up

You can always find a head gasket a little thicker than stock to make up that difference if your worried about clearance. But you will be fine with stock. Stock engines run pretty large piston to valve clearance and your not going to get the piston too high.

KCS probably does, I would have to research them myself.

Haha.

Try Callies. They have a Compstar rod that will work.

PN CSC6100DS6A2AH: 6.100" Rod Length - 2.100 Big End - .943" Pin - 612g - $710.00

Yeah, just be sure to have a machinist pin fit the rods and pistons. What they will do is measure the pin bore diameters in the rods and pistons and the diameter of the pin itself and hone the bores as needed to get adequate clearance. So if your pistons came with a .945" bore and the rods are .943", then they can hone the rods .002" to .945", or whatever diameter is needed to get the needed clearance.

I've seen them used in 1k whp combos, but they wouldn't be my first choice for something like that. You kind of shot yourself in the foot going with a .945" pin piston; most of the aftermarket stuff is designed around a .927" pin. I'd rather have a Callies Ultra rod for what you want to do, but again, they design all of their Ultra LS rods for a .927" pin.

How low are you trying to go? You could get to 9:1 pretty easily with the 2.2cc flat tops and a 70cc head, like a 317 casting.
